That you've actually measured, or observed on the dash display?

On the gauge but gauge seems accurate.

I do a round 520-540 mile trip regularly and it cost me about $30. That is about 16 gallons of gas. Almost straight interstate.

Where do you live that premium gas is less than $2/gal? A bit under $3/gal is more like it in many places now.

This is not a Lamborghini. If it blows up so be it. It’s a risk i’m Taking. Not advocating anyone else do it.

I’ll probably keep this car for as long as it holds up. Hopefully 10 years. It probably won’t get here since I have 94k in 3 years. That would mean 300k miles. I got 13 years out of my last car until it got totaled

But if I do get there, then I would have save $7500 in gas.

Why would I buy a data logger. I’m not trying to prove anything.

Why make the thread if you aren't trying to prove something or attempt to convince other people it's OK? Because someone new to cars may think we are all cranky old farts picking on you trying to stick up for some oil company conspiracy to pay more for fuel. Then they try it, drive their car hard and blow their engine and come back here wondering what went wrong.

Bring real data. Hell even manually calculated MPG since the dash is based on a short driving distance avg based on recent driving. We won't even ask for knock correction since we know you are getting some.

And on that note if gas is that cheap to begin with holy crap. That is really no excuse to not run premium.

OP, does your car burn oil at all? What colour is your oil at every oil change and do you top it up?

I thought I said I was using 87. Premium is about 0.60-0.80 more depending on the gas station

I use mobile 1 full synthetic and change it out every 10k miles. Old Oil is clean when I change it out. I use the 5 quart container and after I change it out pour the old oil back in the container it is about 1.5”-2” less than what was in there before. Some might be in the oil filter and some lost in the transfer and some burned.

Do you check your oil between changes? That much missing and only putting in 5qts seems like you run the risk of being low

Silverz 02-05-2019 02:07 PM

That’s about normal and not a lot of oil. We are talking about the top tapered portion of the container.

Car actually takes 5.8qts of oil and missing 1" or 2" of oil is a lot to me.

You could probably save some more money by changing the oil every 20,000 miles. - :iono:

For once can you just give a hard answer. Do you check your oil so you know it's ok, or do you just assume it's fine?

Cuz I really think we are being trolled at this point.
