Thats just ridiculous not even giving you a chance to negotiate another date etc. thats actually cowardice, its really courtesy to contact you to resolve something at least.
I dont suppose you had a backup plan? if mine happens like this and if dealers start adopting this approach to let queue jumpers in and make a premium above retail then good luck to them. i know alot of people will remember the 86 debacle for years to come and those dealers who capitalized on the current scarcity of these cars cant wonder why buyers have a distrust of their dealings with them. have a feeling some dealers/dealerships will be remembered for the wrong reasons. lets hope i am wrong. for me plan B is a 370Z, after that i wont look back at another toyota. |
spr1nter, first of all, I can't believe how calm and put together your opening post was, well done mate. I would've exploded with a profanity laced tirade of a post, shows your class. Your dealer is a douche, period. Not even informing you or giving you an option regarding your order, which being the customer is yours by rights, this is an injustice. We might as well all move to Gotham city.

Really sucks sprinter, Toyota have not handled this launch well at all.
Not sure what your reasons for GTS are, or your personal situation. Maybe an answer is to get a GT now, enjoy it and have fun (they drive the same), and at the same time sign for the exact GTS you want for delivery in 18 months. Put it subject to acceptable trade value for the GT. I'm sure a dealer would be happy to have you down for 2 cars. Reason I suggest it was that was what I had done, before I got lucky on my GTS. |
Very unethical practice by the dealer. Sounds like they have a 'mate' who wants your car and have used the date as an exit clause. Worth a call to MTA to find out your exact rights in any event to put your mind at ease.

I'm guessing you didn't have tracking details? If you did then it would be very easy to trace what actually happened to your allocation and if you were given the boot for someone else.
This is why I was pushing my dealer to get me tracking details ASAP - otherwise your just relying on his word that you have a place in the queue. |
No unfortunately no tracking details were issued. Just about to start the ring around for unallocated manual GTS's .. ... . don't like my chances but :thanks: guys for all the info so far!
Also if I go down the BRZ path are the paint colours exactly the same? (other then WR Blue of course). BRZ path is kinda tempting now that I have been burnt so badly with toyota. . . . but still the wait is going to kill me after I thought I was soooo close! Cheers |
colours are exactly the same except for WR Blue (BRZ) and Orange (86)
|
Done .. . .. . 16 dealerships called chasing a GTS manual with ... NO LUCK!! haha was not meant to be. Really appreciate all the help and offers (pm) guys, at least the 86 community is caring
Have ordered a BRZ  at least it's a centralised process, should mean nothing gets sold from under me!! Cheers |
Wow ,my dealer had multiple outs( delivery late and finance mistake) and still retained my order. He did leave a long pause when he asked me as it was pushed out. i guess he was waiting for " nah fark it just cancel my order" but he was reasonable and just asked for a bit more patience. Said to me my loyalty would be rewarded.
All i can say is the new year will be a buyers market for 86s. |
