Subaru Toyota Collab on Next Gen 86 Stopped

According to best car:

https://response.jp/article/2019/01/28/318520.html

86MLR 01-29-2019 03:15 AM

I'm curious about their story on "Menstruation for the heavy snow panic".

Maybe my translater needs an update.

Tcoat 01-29-2019 07:09 AM

A headline? The whole thing consists of a headline? According to Best Car they wrote a headline?

JIM THEO 01-29-2019 08:02 AM

And front page mentions the 86&BRZ SCOOP...

Here's an article that is actually readable:

Holy crap! An article based on two lines of a tabloid headline teaser. This is the ultimate in speculative journalism.

p1l0t 01-29-2019 11:48 AM

I might just start a collection of all these reboot cars.

I'd like to see the 86 platform killed off. There just isn't anywhere else for it to go. It's obvious that a turbo is out of the question. An unmolested 86 will ultimately increase in value at some point. Would love to see a replacement. MR2? Yes please.

After inflation and the cost to maintain and store it, you should break even around the year 2069.

Toyota 86 and Subaru BRZ successor canceled?

https://www.autoblog.com/2019/01/29/...ssor-canceled/

Quote:

Rumors indicate that the Toyota 86 is done for. Japanese Nostalgic Car is quoting Japanese sources as saying Toyota and Subaru have parted ways regarding the 86 and that the current car's replacement is off the table. According to JNC, the Japanese magazine Best Car is readying a report that the 86/BRZ successor has been canceled. JNC also considers the fact that in Japan, there will be a four-cylinder, 197-horsepower version of the new Supra, ready to continue where the 86 will leave the market.

Saw this... hope its nothing.

So few cars increase in value. I would love to buy one though... If I win the lotto. I will get an old ford. (if I can find one)

I mean, all I want is one of the 105 GT40's produced between 1966 -1969. They are Lighter weight than a twin @ 2,682 lb

If ever. They may release the 2068 rerelease with unicorn skin interior, 800Hp turbo engine, 12" wide wheels, 1200 lbs total weight, ultra retro edition for $12,000 (2068 $s) and then you are screwed!

Or people could just say a 2018 what? Made by who?

Right hand drive kills it for me.

I would finish my 40 year old rebuild project! I still have the starting point for it in the basement.

Too late. The lowrider fad of the 80s cleared anything salvageable right up. A rotted out shell sells here for $3,000 to $5,000. A good car will run around $35K and a top line one up to about $80K.
Funny when we talk about cars going up in value since before the lowrider thing took off you could pick up a decent 64 Impala for under $1,000.

If the twins are going to go up in value they need to appear in a movie or some high profile fad in the next 10 years or so.

We'll have to come up with something.

Nope no Mexicans

Lynxis 01-29-2019 04:11 PM

Basically all just speculation but between the arrival of the A90 Supra and Subaru changing to a single global platform, it gives me a feeling that it's unlikely the twins will see another generation. At the very least, I can't see the car continuing in it's current form, if they make another generation at all.

If a lower trim Supra becomes available for only a few thousand over the current 86 and is faster, continuing the 86 will be a hard sell, wouldn't it?

daiheadjai 01-29-2019 04:12 PM

Yeah, but some of us still need even limited rear seats...

Everybody calm down. We have no clue what is real yet and every clickbait that posts is adding their own level of bullshit.

Since I do not feel like repeating the same thing in the inevitable 100 threads to come.

By the time we get through 3 or so more clickbaits they will be saying that Toyota murdered Subaru in their sleep and have run off to marry BMW for their money.

I have never had a fighter pilot between my legs. I guess you guys get lonely?

ayau 01-29-2019 04:25 PM

This shouldn’t be surprising as the twin platform is starting to show its age.

There will most likely be a twin successor, it just won’t be on a modified twin platform.

EAGLE5 01-29-2019 04:26 PM

People bitch and moan about how the twins need more power. Toyota builds a Supra. People bitch and moan about how a Supra costs and weighs too much. Enthusiasts ain't shit.

Dadhawk 01-29-2019 04:26 PM

That article reads like it was written by an "ancient astronaut theorist", lots of "could be" and "distinct possibility" stuff.

Why do you think there would be a successor on a 6 year old platform?

A friend of mine who used to have a car lot and now just flips car privately was saying a 1997 Type-R will sell for $60K. The 97 was the most limited production (like 300 if I recall) and only sold in white but I was a bit shocked to hear they were so valuable.

All of the stuff so far is based on a one line teaser from a Japanese tabloid. It may as well have said "Big foot and aliens are destroying all the 86s" for all we actually know. That tabloid is the jump off point for so many rumours with very few ever being right. The weebos will all scream "BUT IT IS FROM JAPAN SO THEY KNOOOOOOW" though.
