Piece of driver side window hardware came out
Hi everyone, interested if anyone else has had this happen and if they bothered fixing it (if it is important to fix at all).
I usually park in my garage with my windows down a bit to allow some air circulation. I put my window up today and a piece of window "fuzz" popped out, stuck to the glass, as I raised the window. It appeared frozen onto the window (its been unusually cold here last few days). https://i.imgur.com/SUBjxrW.jpg Looks like a piece of a bigger strip that broke off. I'm hoping that enough of it remains to stop the glass from being damaged. I guess I could replace this strip if I remove the interior panel? I would probably do a speaker upgrade at the same time. I didn't force the window up, it went up with ease. Its a 13 FRS with 43000km. I suspect its a bit brittle due to age combined with being frozen to the glass. Update: Looks like the part is SU003-01616, "Glass Stabilizer", OUTER. There have the same part number regardless of side. It appeared stuck to the outside of my window so I'm assuming its the outer one. https://dz310nzuyimx0.cloudfront.net...07c619254b.png Part #6 in this diagram. Now the question is can I run without it, or should it be replaced? https://imgur.com/SUBjxrW |

I would personally have it replaced, its known that the window can get scratches over time from being raised and lowered. Theres a thread on this forum somewhere about that. |
My 2017 somehow lost those fuzzy pads on the driver side, and the window soon got scratched. Thankfully the pads and the glass were replaced under warranty.

Yep, I reckon you got er pegged.
It should be replaced, come spring. humfrz |
I had a 2014 BRZ that this happened to. I thought nothing of it at the time and then next thing I know I see scratches in the window. If your car is under warranty get it replaced as soon as you can. If not then also get it replaced as soon as you can. I dont recall how long it took but try to avoid using that window as much as possible until it's fixed.

Get these replaced ASAP, they are known for breaking and then scratching the window. At the time I didn't spot this with mine, thought it was a dirt line from not washing the car enough. Initially dealer refused to replace under warranty (car was still covered back then) claiming cosmetic damage even though it was a mechanical failure. The door glass is not cheap to replace if you have to pay for it yourself.
Inspect both doors to make sure all the other pads are fine, but I'd consider replacing them all if you're already going inside the door to replace one. |

The fuzz pad is trying to get out of one draining hole in the bottom of the door... I'll have to get it replace. |
I guess I'm lucky mine was frozen on the window so it was obvious instead of sitting loose in the bottom of the door.
I'll keep the window up until I fix this. I doubt the small up/down motions when opening closing the door will be an issue. Like to fix this before May when autocross starts here. My windows are scratch free so far, would like to keep them that way. That plastic that holds the strip is that yellow translucent kind that seems to always get brittle. Or maybe they manufacture it brittle! |
