In short, they mixed a few classes that didn't have business being on a crowded track at the same time. Then, a few bad actors spoiled the fun for many others with a crash taking out like 8 cars on lap 4.

Many of the clean racers out there are are protesting the lack of driving enforcement by ceasing participation.

Back in the saddle

It's good to be back on track!

We were back at the SCCA Hoosier Super Tour in Portland.

@Turfer and I finished 2nd/3rd both days, but swapping from Sat to Sun. The NC Miata is just too much of an overdog this year based on the BOP (balance of performance). It has the same trap speed but 225lbs less to carry around so we didn't have much for the MX-5 of Cefalo.

I finally got to play with the new Insta360 camera too: You'll have to use your mouse or finger to move the camera. Works GREAT in a VR headset too! Terrific nose to tail battle with Turfer. It was 95 degrees that day and I started to overheat in the draft so I had to turn the interior heater on full blast to help with engine cooling and it did the trick, but damn was I baking in the car.

WHAT A WEEKEND - SCCA Pacific Grand Prix

What an extraordinary weekend.

To set the stage: The previous T4 track record set by Oscar Jackson Jr. last year was a 1:34.6. As this was set during the race it counted, but it was also the fastest lap of that weekend.

Fast forward to this event..

SATURDAY

Saturday morning was the perfect conditions for fast laps and with an old set of A7s I was able to bang my fastest lap ever at Pacific Raceways: 1:33.4, which put me on T4 pole.

Turfer wasn't able to set at time and Totemo had some rust to shake off, which he soon did come race time.

During the Saturday race it turned into a 3 car battle. Oscar was FAST, resetting the track record (officially) with a 1:34.310 and only narrowly missing the victory because of electric malfunction that gave me a win just before start/finish. It was a wild race.

SUNDAY
I was fast again in qual with a 1:33.7. Both Turfer and Totemo struggled to find time, so over lunch they revisited alignment and their tire inventory - which worked! The car Oscar was renting wasn't able to solve their electrical gremlin so he was out of the Sunday race.

Turfer and I ran next to each other pretty much the whole race with Totemo fighting a failing 3rd gear. At one point we go through 5a/5b and Turn 6 side by side which NOT a place you do that - and it required us both to down shift to make it happen. lol. We both ran very low 1:34's.

In the end I had the win, but just before Start/Finish I gave it to Turfer so he could collect the contingency awards.

My favorite part is that the official T4 track record [B]is back home with the local team! 1:34.052

The videos look like a real blast. Did you have some tire rubbing going on?

You heard that noise also!? It's not a tire rub that I could determine, I think it's the bearings in my sway bar end links. At Portland my right front made a horrible creaking noise (like a door in a haunted house) when I turned the steering wheel in the paddock - once I shot some oil in it, the noise was cleared up but this could be coming from the other side or the rears which are all spherical joints.

But yeah, ever time I approached Turn 5a or went through Turn 9 over those bumps I was like "WTF is that?!".

And yet you also said "F it" and stayed hammer down. I hear the sound of clanging brass.

It honestly didn't sound like what I would think tire rub would sound like, but that was the only sound I could imagine at those moments on the track.

Hi, the Raceseng link in your updated first post is broken.
Did you mean to point to this?

Web links break over time but that solution work. A shame it is $170 for a threaded rod and a nylon strap so I would probably recommend folks find a different solution. Also, I would no longer recommend the raceseng camber/caster plates and would recommend a company with a bit more “staying power” like ground control.

Are you having issues with your cascam plates?

Go fast. Take chances.

Nope. I think the GC are a better design and a better price. Not enough for me switch but if I was starting fresh, I’d probably go in that direction

I bought just the tug shaft and the orange Sabelt strap to try and replicate what you have in your photos. Looks like I need to figure out a huge bolt size to go through the Sabelt strap and into the shaft threads. And maybe widen the hole of the Sabelt metal plate, which seems too small.

Would you be able to post a good close up of your setup please?

I’m not in the same state as my car right now. However, I will be racing at Portland this weekend and you are welcome to stop by and check it out in person.
