Recommend for me a good bad tyre :P
 

I'm currently running 225-section MPSS on 17x7.5 wheels. They've been pretty wonderful tyres, but I have to admit I've been enjoying the car a lot more since the rears have started falling apart (cords are visible, they're finished). It's kind of fun when the car feels like it's got an extra 200hp and you can spin wheels in second and sometimes third gear if the roads are damp.

To that end: does anyone have any recommendations for a "low-performance" tyre that handles nicely? Obviously I've tried the Primacies, but I really wasn't a fan-- particularly of their wet handling which felt like driving on clear ice. What I'm looking for, I guess:

• Light-to-moderate much grip
• Performance that doesn't go completely to shit when it rains
• Mild breakaway characteristics / enjoys slip angle
• Decent ride quality
• Ideally nice and light

Anyone have a tyre they like?

I've already been looking at the Pilot Sport AS3s and the P Zero All-Seasons, but reviews suggest they actually make a lot of grip, still.

Get some AS/3 in 215/45/17. They are great tires.

I'll stick by the Hankook Ventus V12 tires. They're a decent tire, aren't expensive, and are a good all-around tire. I'd consider it the next step above the stock primacies with much better wet grip.

I think OP wants less grip... I have EVO V12, they are sticky, but with a soft side wall. I went from MPSS to the hankooks. They are a downgrade in terms of ride quality because of how soft the tires are, but grip is close to the same IMO.

Sorry, I wrote V12, but I meant V2. The concept line is an all season that does everything " decent" and is pretty cheap. I agree that the Evo2 is probably stickier than he wants!

BTW, how about in addition of less grippier tire model also getting narrower one eg. 205/50?

I'm not sure I want to go smaller on a 7.5 in rim. I got 7.5's to give myself a lot of width options, but I never imagined at the time that I might want to go skinnier than Prius tyres :lol:

Personally I feel the V2 is too little. I have those on my OEM wheels and I really don't like them (they came with the car).

A really nice middle ground I feel is the Sumitomo HTRZ-III. Asymmetrical, good wet grip, decent dry, good breakaway, lasts a long time, comfy and quite cheap. Less than $100 each at TireRack.
