Encountering other BRZ/86's on the road...
What usually happens when you encounter another BRZ/86 (or vice versa) going in the same direction or on the same road? Also, do you guys usually acknowledge each other in the opposite direction through waves/salutes/thumbs up?
If another BRZ/86 noticed me on the same road, almost always that car will drive up next to me and do either one or both of the following (traffic permitting): 1. Give a nod or size my stock car up 2. Starts revving/hooning ... And I ignore the latter. I appreciate the acknowledgement but I must apologize for not being as enthusiastic about seeing another fellow driver and returning the "happy dance". I'll gladly return a wave/salute or thumbs up then go back to minding our own business though. If I see another BRZ/86 up ahead on the freeway, I'll sometimes even slow down and stay back to not be noticed by the other BRZ/86... then they spot me and sure enough, cue the above. The more modded their car (as in more "fast & furious" looking), it seems the more likely they will get all excited. I just don't want to be lumped in with "that" group of drivers by the other surrounding drivers and contribute to what seems to already be a bad rep for sports car drivers in "normal" drivers' eyes. To be clear, I don't find these situations annoying but it is a rather interesting reaction from them sometimes. Strangely enough, I don't get much reaction from another driver in the opposite direction. I would wave or salute and more than half the time, there is no response regardless of how soon we saw each other. So this is not common? Miata and S2k people almost always wave. What are your encounters like? |
A quick minor wave usually.

Mine is the Toyota, so nobody waves to me :( If it was a Subaru, I'd probably see white spray onto their windshield (Vermont Subaru enthusiasts will freak out over a green 1998 Outback)
|
I get way more waves/nods from WRX owners than twin owners.

we immediately get a hotel room and bang each others gears out.
|
usually a wave, if i get beside them (and they are modded) usually ask for their IG handle to follow them.
its a community, not about doing stupid shit or trying to race, just out to appreciate the cars |

some of it could be generational as well. Im middle aged. A lot of Corvette owners wave and its a known tradition. A lot of Corvette owners are in the older crowd.
In my 86 ive tried some small waves or head nods nothing over the top. A lot of the gt86s ive encountered are modded clean so they are most likely an enthusiast like myself but I rarely get a reply. I think a lot of the younger crowd is just part of the hide yourself in your cellphone generation. Not trying to offend any of the generations just my observations. |
I always wave. If I see them in time that is.
Some younger ones wave back. Some don't. Some older ones wave back. Some don't. Don't really care if they wave back or not and don't take it personally. Only have come across two "racers". Both were BRZs. One was a young douche and the other was an old lady. When I say old that means they were OLD. |

I wave. Sometimes I get a return "hello" of some kind. Most times it's just a weird look.
Not to many modified twins in my area. Most are bone stock. (Not that that is an issue; just that from experience I'm less likely to get a wave from a stock twin) |
Flip 'em off, like I do everyone else...I don't discriminate :)

I come from the Jeep world and also own a Focus RS. I generally give a two-finger wave/salute to any vehicle I like and appreciate - a well built Jeep (not common, most are magazine cover street queens), a twin, a Fiesta ST/Focus ST/RS, WRX, Evo, Vette, Porsche, etc.

Sideways brim cap crowd is not my thing. And those are the odds |
