Tinted Door Glass
1 Attachment(s)
So on my Frs like many others the door glass has been scratched from the track inside of door. Its pretty annoying and I hate the way it looks. My family and I have an Auto Glass company in which we mostly sell parts for truck back glasses. But we recently made some tinted door glass for the Tacoma and it got me thinking that we could make these parts for my car as well. So I guess i am just putting a feeler out there to see if anyone would be interested in something like this to replace your scratched glass and fix the problem so it doesn't happen again. What we did with the tacoma is to use a grey tint instead of the factory green tint. Its not any darker it just reflects the light differently making it look darker and reducing the amount of light coming in. We did this because some states like Michigan where I live, it is illegal to tint your side windows. But because it is not a darker tint we can get away with it. Also when you tint the glass with a film on the green tint you can still see some of the green. Our grey tint eliminates this. Below Is a picture of the difference in the tint for the tacoma.

what was the cost for the tacoma? i'm curious for a rough baseline
|
Right now we are selling the tacoma door glass for $230 for both sides.
|
this is interesting, I'm sure shipping would kill it though.

So our tacoma parts boxed up weigh about 18 pounds. I did some rough shipping estimates and the price for shipping ranges from $15 to $55. We are located out of Michigan so the $55 range would be to ship to anywhere on the west coast like California. alphasaur you are in New York it says? I did an estimation to NY at about $22. Average shipping for these would be about $35 i would say.

Anyone else interested in this I know all of you have scratched window glass lol

I don't have scratched glass, but some "factory tinted" windows would be cool - especially since I don't really WANT anything really dark. I live in Chicago, so I could even make a road trip out of picking it up... and maybe having you install them. BUUUTTT unless I could get the rear quarter windows to match, I probably wouldn't be interested. I'm way too OCD. And then I'd want to do the rear glass, and, well... then it gets expensive, lol.

This is true. I was lucky and the previous owner of my car had already tinted the rear windows. But I am sure that getting the rest of the back windows tinted wouldn't be too expensive.

I'm a little interested. How would this prevent future scratches though?
I have a MY13 and have all the terrible issues. Scratched Glass and also my window seal rolling up destroyed my dealership tint. |
I guess, this TSB? Try changing guides/seals mentioned in it.
