EL Headers “plug and play”

EL Headers (any) - are they “plug and play”? Are just some of them easy to install at home? If not what do I need to do in order to fit them to the stock exhaust? Looking to get the HKS with catalyzer. If there is anything better that doesn’t require a tune I’m open for suggestions. Not looking to upgrade the whole exhaust system right now.

They're all easy and able to be installed at home. 8 bolts and 3 gaskets iirc. Literally all you gotta do is take all those bolts off, replace headers, replace gaskets (use new gaskets) and tighten nuts and bolts. Then tune for it and listen to the sweet music that comes out the ass of your car.
@KingJon1991 fixed with new gaskets ;)

+1 The installation is very easy and straightforward!

You will definitely need a tune with an aftermarket header.

Thank you everybody! Is there anything that doesn't require a tune? I can deal with a check engine light but not performance problems. My car is still under warranty and I don't want to void it
Does the greemspeed gasket will fit the HKS headers?

Everyone is looking out for your best interest when they tell you to tune it. Most of the catted headers that people run end up throwing a cel at some point anyway.

I'm kinda scared about the warranty, I have like a year and a half left for it and if something will happen to the car it can get very expensive in israel
The real question is if I can drive without a tune and just ignore the cel or will it affect the performance instead of making it better.
Beautiful car btw!

Installing catless header has great chance for cat readiness CEL after a time to pop-up, unless those checks are disabled in tune. Not killing thing though, as it will only mean that cruise control will be disabled.

Going catless is kind of a problem since we have very very hard emission rules here so my only option is to compensate for catalyzed headers

Dealership can not tell if you have ever tuned your car as long as you flash back stock tune before taking it in. Same with header. Flashing back to stock tune takes only a few mins. Header swap might take 2-3hours the first times. But once you get it down 45min -1hour including jacking up car, cleaning up etc. otherwise a catted header by itself will have very minimal gains.

So if I get an OFT and flash the ecu back and forth they wouldn’t know? Sounds awesome.
Headers here does not void the warranty (well they do but the mechanics at the dealership don’t know anything about these cars because they do not get them a lot. we only have 150 brzs in the country) the only thing I need to worry about is if I flash the ecu back to stock and a cel pops up that they will check it

Grimmspeed has gaskets for the whole exhaust AFAIK, and more.

I just got the header gaskets for $23 on Amazon. I also got the 3inch, but it was the wrong size for headers (my turbo exhaust is 3" so mistakenly got 3"). I believe you just need a 2.5" gasket for headers to downpipe or whatever they are calling thing connecting the headers to front pipe. You also need header gaskets, just Google brz grimmspeed header gaskets and you'll find em easy.

Not tuning it may decrease performance as it will likely alter the afr, etc depending on the design vs stock. I'm a car newb still, but I know you need to tune for most upgrades done to the engine.
