i get it, Trump isn't great. However he's much better than what the Dems have offered and what they plan on offering. I'd love a Ron Swanson type, actual conservative to be in office but thats a pipedream

For SMOG purposes, does the saying "Stock cats and anything after is fine" still apply?

This motortrend statement is confusing me

In conclusion, if you own a car that requires a smog certificate in order to register it (1976 and newer) and you have an exhaust that is loud enough to give law enforcement a reason to pull you over, you're getting fined!
Am I reading this right, where if you have a exhaust that is loud, you will get a fine when you get a SMOG?

Nothing has changed but the penalty phase. If your car passed SMOG without any problem before, it will still pass.

So in short, as long as you don't remove your cats, and only have a catback exhaust that is not an Invidia N1, you're pretty much good for SMOG and Noise?

Are you talking in terms of DB only or SMOG? My main concern is SMOG, I have a perrin 3 inch which Im pretty sure is over 95 DB at WOT, but I just want to make sure that in terms of SMOG, I'll be fine. I just don't want to go in for a SMOG and fail like 2 years from now haha.

As far as I know Smog, doesn't look at noise level.

I was only referring to the case if you got pulled over by CHP for something, they write you up for your exhaust. If they send you to a state ref they will test your noise level to make sure you're under the limit.

SMOG tests have changed; they don't even put the "sniffer" in the exhaust anymore. The test is all based on your CEL history, timing, etc. The whole SMOG test, at least the last one I did, was all from the OBD port.

Sounds like I should be fine then :) Fingers crossed that cops don't find my Perrin 3 inch too loud. lol

Regardless under 95DB, if the authorities pulls you over with your vehicle equipped with a modified exhaust they will most likely write you up UNLESS your exhaust is near stock noise level and you can convince the cop somehow. They're going to play it by their ear and visual aspects. Most of the video clips on youtube where drivers are being pulled over are simply being cited for a "modified" exhaust and doesn't explain anything about noise whatsoever. I think that's the bottom line; no mods to the exhaust period. =(

THANK YOU!
I have been silently reading this and wondering when somebody would bring up that the law is for "modified" exhaust not just "over 95 db" exhaust. You could have the quietest exhaust out there but if it was modified and they noticed you can get a ticket. Our law is almost word for word the same as there and I would be far more concerned about the term "unusual sound" than I would the 95 db. You can have very strange sounding exhaust that is well under 95db. In fact 95db is VERY loud and I would be willing to bet that many that think they are over are actually under but the deeper tone makes it seem louder than the actual db rating would be.
