FT86SF 2017+ steering wheel

Hi All,

I've just bought new aftermarket steering wheel from FT86SF and though I find the leather and stitching to be a high quality, I can't help my self noticing all the dirty/dusty and scratched marking through the core.

Especially the center nut looks really scratched from both sides, like the core of the steering wheel has been already used and just refurbished and wrapped.

Does anyone knows from where those D-shaped cores originate? Are they used in any other models than in 86/BRZ? Hope they don't take OEM and just cut the bottom section :bonk:

Does anyone have a similar thoughts or you have maybereceived an aftermarket steering wheel in the same condition - new wrap and dirty/scratched core?

[emoji1787][emoji1787][emoji1787] dude just put it on, you won't see it with the airbag in place. It won't affect the function of the wheel whatsoever.

I remember obsessing about things like that with my first car. Took me a few years to realize you can't make the car perfect no matter how hard you try. Took a while to learn to do trying to control everything.

He just bought an expensive wheel and it looks used. It's a legitimate question. I would guess that they are used wheels that have been modified. You could always ask FT86SF.

Correct. With shipping and all the crappy taxes it has costed 750$.
FT86SF advertises it as brand new, while reasoning that all their wheels are in the same condition. By asking if core was used in any other car prior, their reply seemed somehow ambiguous.

You mention their reply here but I don't see any other mention of your correspondence with FT86SF. Did you already contact them, and if so what did they say?

Also, just to play devil's advocate here, the product page I'm looking at doesn't specify that they build this on a new core. The description only says new once, "The all new FT-86 SpeedFactory steering wheel..." where "new" would just be referring to the design and not the actual condition. The way I read it they did leave the door open to be using a used part for this.

That being said, I would expect something like this to be in an entirely new condition, and the apparent use of a previously used core doesn't seem like it's in line with the pricing. For comparison see the Real Japan wheel on 86worx:

I got the black version of this last March - looks like the price has gone up since then. I got mine for $525 + $25 shipping, and it shipped direct from Japan. Took about a month to receive.

I liked how the leather section extends higher on this wheel than the ft86speedfactory one. Thanks for posting!

I imagine they use that area to hold the wheel in the jig for leather wrapping and it is indeed a new part
