Exhaust flapper mod?

Love my UEL and r400 but it wakes my kids up and shakes my neighbors (who I like) out of bed.

Looking for something I believe is called a flapper mod or dampening flap.

Basically, you push a button or pull a cable and your exhaust is restricted.

This way I can leave and return home quietly.

Any ideas?

Back in the day, I had a custom exhaust built with a "butterfly" valve. It was activated by a lever under the driver seat. I could open and close it while driving.

A performance shop my buddy owned put the whole thing together for me.

It went from loud to CRAZY LOUD!

It was on the accord.

I was 19... Going broke building these... :bonk:

Edit: google this to find what you are looking for. "exhaust butterfly valve"

If you can give up a small amount of power, put a "Car Chemistry" insert in one side and a cutoff in the other. The insert has very little restriction and with all the gas going through it should help cut down the sound. With the cut off open you should have most of the noise back.
We have had to use these inserts at tracks that have imposed sound level requirement.

Further back in the day, we called them cut-outs. Cut into the exhaust pipe of a big block Chevrolet V-8 and weld them in.

When you pulled the cables and opened those puppies up, dumping the exhaust right under the car - the lyric from the movie/song "Thunder Road" took on meaning - :happyanim:

IIRC electric actuated cutouts that can be welded on exhaust are plentiful on eg. ebay. I'd probably prefer cable actuated one though, for simplicity/decreased failure possibiliity/cheaper price.

There are cheap units and expensive units. If you want to save some money you might be able to buy a stock Mustang GT muffler/pipe and actuator then run wires back to some switches in the dash.

Check Summit, Jegs, and Hooker for cut out and exhaust control.

So far, if a custom shop hooks me up I'm around 800 canadian!

$190 Y pipe with valve and electronics
$200 muffler and other pipes
$300 to 400 labour

Revworks I believe has this just launched with a new exhaust and the feature you are wanting. Not sure on how it sounds etc...
