Cold Air Intake

I am in the market for a CAI. I understand that the performance gains are very minimal. I am doing it for purely just the sound.

For those who own a CAI, Can you describe the sound it makes? Is it very audible from the cabin? When do you hear the sound? Is it sound close to a turbo spooling?

No microphone no matter what quakily can capture the sound clearly. It just doesn’t compare to what you hear in person.

You should have never commented.

Exactly.......
No words can perfectly describe the sound either

Noob.....

I got my CAI after having changed the header, OP and FP and topped it off with a tune.

The combination of the above has made the car smoother and revs more freely.

As for the sound, I still have the plumbing for the sound tube but it's blocked off at the CAI so I don't get the resonated noise but do hear all of the above from the outside. It's sweet.. not in your face loud.

Actually, yeah. A person can describe if the sound sounds like a turbo spooling, air getting sucked in and whatnot.

U noob. I bet your wife goes down to the bar every weekday to spend time with the town drunk.

It goes brap...

Is it school holidays?

Serious question.

On topic: No, it doesn't sound like a turbo spooling.

The noise it makes is relative to the CAI used.

The sound you will hear, to varying degrees, is induction.

More like whooshing, gurgling sound much like a set of open trumpet side draught 45 Webers.... Second thoughts perhaps not!

If you don't mind removing your bumper for filter changes, the Mishimoto CAI (the one that requires bumper removal, not the box one) sounds AMAZING. I ran it on my car for a while before changing intakes later, and I loved it. It made a very deep induction noise.

Here's a video of a sound comparison on a dyno. https://www.mishimoto.com/mmai-brz-13-sound-video.html

Imho rather worth getting Grimmspeed or TRD ones, as ones that don't manipulate MAF sensor readings.

Maybe like the sound a 283 cu. in. Chevrolet V-8, with a 4 bbl carb, makes when under acceleration, with the air cleaner removed -

Nah, if that were the sound, I'd take my OEM CAI off and put on an aftermarket CAI and put my stock muffler back on and call it good - :happyanim:

The more important question is are you willing to buy an OFT as well and rescale the maf?
