TRD Front Canards on BRZ front bumper?
I’m taking a bit of a risk as I ordered and received a set of these canards recently. I haven’t attempted the install yet and I’m a little wary since it requires drilling. My friends and I think it should work, especially since the canards are more of a rubbery flexible material rather than hard plastic or CF.
Anyway, I was wondering if anyone else has installed these on a brz before as they are technically shaped for JDM GT86 front bumpers. I found one person with an older brz who tried it and while the canards weren’t lined up super well, it looked doable. Would be cool to see if others have done this install on a BRZ before as well. Thanks in advance. |
doubt they'll fit well, however I did see some new brz 2017+ canards on ftspeedfactory website...

That definitely helps. The core idea is confirming they can be installed on a non GT86/FRS bumper. I’d been looking a bit with a friend who installed them recently on his FRS and thought it looked doable. But having examples is always helpful. |

Me and that black car on top get it from the same manufacture @verus engineering. |

You can see yours have a squared “lip” at the end and the TRD are flat. |

The TRD dive planes, are the rubber, pedestrian friendly ones? I'd think they would flex enough to fit the bumper difference, but have not actually messed with them.

Haven't done the install yet but it's definitely looking/sounding more and more feasible. The important thing is using the templates well enough for the positioning of where to drill the two holes for each. |
Hey Spike, I installed them on my '16 BRZ...Was @ the kickoff, banner was BAKO86...Talk to Neal, he saw how they are mounted ") !!!
Still not technically advanced enough to upload photo's...But put tools in my hand & it's a done deal...Installed mine a little more vertical to match the lines, maybe a little more push, but to me not noticeable... Photo's in Garage... |
Install went very well last night! At least for the kouki BRZ bumper, they actually match the lines of the bumper super well. These went on without any forced conforming/"bending" to the bumper. They match up nicely with the lines the bumper has, and the "rear" of the canards can be somewhat pointed and stuck on with their 3m tape in whatever direction you want. So my friend and I angled them toward the lower corner of the sidemarkers.
So yes, they do indeed work on 2017+ BRZ's at least. Hope this was helpful! A couple quickie pictures from this morning: https://i.imgur.com/UYxXsKF.jpg https://i.imgur.com/czo33IS.jpg |

you got them to fit, but it doesn't mean the angle of attack is correct...if it is, then great. If they were just for looks, then it looks fine.

But, I'll respect your attempt at a 'critique' a bit. Least I can do for your time. I mean, I obviously prefer it to be at least a little functional. but on the other hand I'm not going for a maximum performance build or anything. This car is one half daily, one quarter mountain roads challenger, and potentially one quarter track/road handling course car, but I have yet to do more than a single track day. So, do I care if the "angle of attack" is correct? Sure. But if it's off by a bit and not getting me the best amount of additional airflow do I give a fuck? No. FWIW, this is direct from the TRD Japan site: https://i.imgur.com/xydywsq.png Now, obviously my bumper is different from an 86 bumper. But this shows roughly the same positioning. And another FWIW, while I don't have a picture to show this right now, the corners of the canards actually line up almost exactly with the winglets of my STI front lip. Now I'd assume their "angle of attack" is pretty accurate, and I'd thus imagine (though not being an expert myself, obviously, except with talking out of my ass) that if they match up with the canard, then they should be plenty "functional", if only a little. :thanks: |

Careful Spike. You hit Mach 3 and the whole car may take off or nose plow into the ground. https://i.stack.imgur.com/rhfp0.jpg |
It won't. Catback exhaust-vectoring will compensate canard aero.

LOL! dang, that escalated quickly...
I do read on, I do care. That angle tho looks nice and should add a little downforce not that it would matter as much as doing the verus front splitter with its attached side wings. If I came across as something other than helpful, I apologize. It looks nice on your car. Enjoy! |
I don't really like to have my attention redirected from the new Australian Netflix smash hit show "Yummy Mummies". But when it is redirected from the Australian cultural documentary Yummy Mummies I expect it to be from the quality of comedy presented here today.
You guys are doing the lords word. No it's time I return to the best Netflix geo-political bio-flick series on goblins ever created.... Yummie fucking Mummies!!!! |
