crashed Toyota 86 special edition. airbag module's/ reset or replace.
i own a Toyota 86 2017 special edition, I'm looking to see what the best and cheapest option for these repairs and i have a few options. here are my options
1.) Buy brand new seatbelt and computer module from dealer to reset everything 2.) reset sensors.( looking for options there let me know if you know any) 3.) buy seatbelt harness and sparco seatbelts.remove stock seatbelt, and find a sensory to trick the car into thinking it is there, all while resetting the computer module. 4.) buy eBay parts from another model since it is cheaper positives and cons from each option (please answer my questions) 1.) positives- easiest way and most effective Con- very expensive and will cost 800+ for computer module and 300+ for each seatbelt. 2.) positives- cheap option about 50 to reset a sensor con- don't know the effectiveness or where to do it. please if you know where or how to let me know. 3.) positives- i get the customized seatbelt i want, for cheaper then dealership parts. cons- i don't know where to reset modules and if there i a sensor to trick seatbelt sensor into it being there. 4.) positives- cheaper then dealership cons- don't know if a different model will be comparable with my special edition 2017 toyota 86. so to recap, my goal is to have the racing harness and seatbelt all while having the light reset, but i do not want to pay for the harness stuff and then go to buy the 300 dollar seatbelts as well as buy the 800+ computer module. Id love to know how to get this done effectively. please let me know what you think of my options. ill post pictures during the weekend for it is in the shop getting done. |

What about airbags?

Racing harnesses keep you up right in a rollover, so unless you have a cage they can be more dangerous. Schroth and Takata are the only ones that make ASM harnesses, and I'm not sure if Takata is DOT legal but the Schroth are.

I'm fairly sure that once the airbag deploys, the clock spring in the steering wheel as well as the airbag need to be replaced as well as the airbag control module and seatbelt of the affected side. I dont think the module can be reset. As far as I know all parts need replacement to function properly again. I would also stay away from aftermarket parts particularly with the airbag.
