JDL exhaust and tune
On website of JDL Autodesign I found the following dyno chart for jdl uel:
https://jdlautodesign.net/wp-content...ed-600x420.jpg There is written that this chart is made with full exhaust and tune. Does it mean that I will need to upgrade uel, front and over pipe to get the same results? Is it enough? Which tune is better for JDL uel: OFT, Ecuteck, delicious tuning? Btw, I heard rumors that Supra Final drive gear by weirperformance will fit Scion FR-S. Is it so? Which one exactly? Cause they have 2 of it. Thank you. |

Every car will read differently. I would also be aware that most parts manufacturers will post hero dynos to validate their product.
EcuTek isn't a tune. It's software you use to upload and log tunes to your ECU. For example, you could buy a tune from Delicious Tuning, use the EcuTek software and cable to upload it to your car, and then log the data requested by Delicious. From there they will revise your tune and you would repeat the process until they are satisfied. OFT is a canned tune, so it generally won't bring you 100% of the performance available. However, many owners are happy to use their tunes given the price. |

I already searched.
For example, I didn't find any test results with full JDL exhaust. |
Try not to chase a dyno result per se. You want your car to run the best that it can, while being as reliable as stock or better. Ideally you'll want to find yourself the best possible tuner and have that person calibrate your car to the mods you want to do. That being said, a full exhaust with the JDL UEL should produce some nice results. Even better if you have access to e85. Remember every dyno reads differently. When you see these results posted online there are a lot of factors; humidity, elevation, ambient temp, STD vs. SAE smoothing, etc. etc.

Your question regarding tuning also shows a lack of research as you're asking between OFT, Ecutek, and Delicious Tuning, and you should note that Delicious Tuning offers an Ecutek product (and is therefore not a part of the first tier of tuning solution comparison). For simple exhaust modification, both OFT and Ecutek solutions will perform very similarly, but choosing Ecutek now will be helpful if you plan to ever do more to the car (such as forced induction). OFT is also mostly limited to off-the-shelf tunes (I don't know how accessible Shiv is for custom tuning, nor do I really care) whereas many Ecutek tuners include revisions with their tune to ensure that your car is performing as optimally as possible. Note: all of the information above could have been gathered by researching. Why not ask Weir themselves which final drive would work? |
A dyno chart is arbitrary in a way, unless you're getting a dyno from the same location, same day, same time, they're not going to be exactly the same. It's like having someone use their home made measuring tape to see how tall you are. Yeah, it's a unit of measure but every home made measuring tape is going to read a little differently, even if it's close. Chasing numbers is fun, it's nice to be able to tell someone you make an extraordinary number. The hard part is realizing that it's generally meaningless.
If you're into computers at all, it's like someone telling you their Pentium 4 processor runs at 4.81GHZ after being overclocked. You know that even at 2.66GHZ, your i7 would destroy it, but their number is bigger so it's tough to swallow. |
MCTeeJ, mistople, ty for your answers.
Maybe it is better to buy turbo kit for 3k and that's all :D |
Fred E, yeap, ty.
This picture differs a lot from what I've seen on this forum for JDL uel and because of this I have asked. The question actually is: Does it worth to buy UEL with full exhaust? If it is question of 2-3 whp. so it is better to do something different or pay these bucks to the best tuner instead of buying these parts. I already asked weir by email, but didn't get a response yet. So maybe here is somebody with real experience of installing it and can share his knowledge about which part is exactly installed. |
Well, what do you want out of the car? Is it supposed to be a track toy? fun commuter? do you want a much faster straight line car? If you enjoy how the car drives then I would encourage you to do your bolt ons and gain your 20-30 hp. If you think that the car needs more than a "bump" in power then I would encourage you to save your money for a turbo kit and if you're not the first owner perhaps a spare engine on standby. (not implying boosted FA's can't be reliable, it's more a preparedness thing)

Besides a header, there are not many gains to be had with the rest of the exhaust while NA. Only while boosted are gains somewhat significant.
As for the Weir final drive. It's going to be the Mk 3 Supra equivalent. I usually don't trust dynos posted by the company producing the product. For example my tuner has thrown a couple OFT tuned cars with headers on his dyno and the gains are a lot less than expected/claimed online. |
@tyler_win_photo, thank you very much.
You helped me to decide what to do with upgrade. It seems that economically turbo/sc is the best choise. About the FD: do you know is it required to do a tune for FD on AT? |

Just FYI, a 3k turbo kit costs about 7k |
