Buying a 15 BRZ Limited Auto 69k miles, extended o2 sensor repair though

So I'm looking at 2015 brz limited auto with 69k miles, and its at a chevy dealership. They said the car had a CEL and needed an O2 sensor which they replaced, but the CEL either came back or didn't go away, so they are sending it to a subaru dealer. Should I be worried at this point that the car could have bigger issues, or just assume they dont know how to work on this type of car and are smart for sending it to the "experts"

I'd just call the Subaru shop whilst they have the car and ask for their thoughts on it.

Don't know whether this works in the USA, but it might be interesting to ask the Subie dealer if they can access the car's repair / maintenance history.

A 2015 is probably still under warranty. The Chevy dealer is the current owner and eligible for warranty work the same as any other owner. Why would they spend their time and money on it when they can ship it over to Subaru and get it done for free?

Is it possible the car has a catless header installed? The prior owner might have reflashed the stock tune before selling. In that case, replacing the O2 sensor wouldn't fix the CEL. The only fixes would be either getting a tune or installing a stock header.

Just a thought.

Managed to ditch this car and buy a 2016 instead, bought within 24 hours of landing in their store lol.

Probably for the best. I like Kch's theory though since it makes a lot of sense. If the car did have a header but returned to a stock tune god only knows what else was done to it and then changed back.

If the car is that new it 100% has free emissions repairs on it. It's federally mandated. Anything related to the emissions system will be replaced under warranty. My 2013 had a CEL for an 02 a few months ago and they replaced my entire OEM header for free with a new sensor.

EDIT: Also important to note that these repairs are not limited to the dealership which you bought your car from. I bought my car about an hour away from where i live, had the dealer literally 5 minutes down the road do the warranty work.
