Victory Function fenders

I purchased a set of Victory Function wide fenders, had a shop quote me $1200 to paint and install which includes blending into the doors, my paint is Pearl white 37J.

Is is mandatory to get the doors blended?

Lol paint blending. Yeah that a nice way of saying let's charge you more and hope you will not notice.

It's part of their sales trick. Why charge a little or just the fenders when you can charge them two doors and hood.

I'll just shop around. Or get them to just do the fenders.

this guy has zero clue what he is talking about, it is not a sales pitch it is needed for color match. Cars come with paint now that has many variants depending on when it was painted and where it was painted, and blending color is required to achieve a uniform look to the replaced panels. Automotive paint isn't like it was forever ago where colors were straight black out of a can, some colors have 15 variants and will look completely off if you mix the wrong one.

I mean if you don't mind your fenders looking visibly off than the rest of your car then no blending is needed. All the whites for the FRS/BRZ are notoriously hard to match and the clear coat fading/yellowing due to UV is much more apparent than other colors.

IMO, blending is mandatory for a seamless look. Shop around see what other places quote. Look at before and after photos of their work. Make your decision based on local info.

Good luck. I hope your fenders get painted to your satisfaction.

Blending is not a scam. Ask any painter, any real painter. It doesn't matter if it's visible only from an inch or a mile; non matching is non matching

MaximS 12-06-2018 03:00 PM

lmao I'm only here for the "blending is a scam" comment hahaha

Mr.ac 12-06-2018 06:03 PM

Dam, you guys got taken for chumps.
Don't you think I have talked to a automotive painter before?
Is it hard to paint match, yes but it can be done.
Everyone is tying to make a buck.
You want proof, look at any Wheeler Dealers episode. They get away with painting just one part. Cause they know what they are doing.

Color looked good on my tv so blending is a rip-off, yup you’re an idiot.

Wow that's all? No other supporting ideas, facts, or friends of a friend saying otherwise? No even a google-fu battle?

I worked at a paint shop for years. The best painters ( I am really talking about the best) blend. It works. Can't believe this is being discussed. Paint fades, you have to blend.

Or they just buff the car, wax it and call it paint match. All while charging more.
Yeah I can't believe it's being not discussed.

There are short cuts all round. Some do a proper job some just want to make more money for less work.

Just like dealerships charging over $100+ for oil changes and filters.

Many shops ARE dishonest.
