Race Fuel in Canada E85
 

As we know E85 hasent been available in Canada in the past, I was always a lil jealous of these guys south of the border who can easily acquire E85.

I recently heard about Touge Tuning in Mississauga, Ontario. They now have E80 available with the COBB flex fuel kit for 08-17 Subaru WRX/STI. They sell ethanol by the liter and do all the work in house. Ive seen Dyno results that were impressive.

Ive tried calling Touge Tuning to get info but no one was available to help me at the time so Ive turned to this site hoping someone can help.

I have little knowledge on this so feel free to shine some light. Im wondering if I install a flex fuel kit and run E80 from Touge Tuning + tune, will this work as if it were E85?
Has anyone on here ever installed the flex fuel kit + E80/E85 + tune for the BRZ/GT86? or even just a high Octane boost (101-107) + tune? Does anyone know of a better fuel system to improve this cars performance here in Canada? Please share your knowledge...

Im on the same boat as you. I want to go with either Methanol injection or or E85 + flex fuel kit. Im at stage 2 with header ATM and want that extra juice. From my knowledge, the only problem is not having E85 gas stations in Canada which makes it hard to monitor and regulate mixture of ethanol content. Im sure someone will eventually figure this out if they haven't already, E85 is expensive though.

Why in the world would you even think about any kind of E85 setup when there are -literally- zero gas stations in the country that sell the fuel?

What am I missing here? Is this a track-only car that you trailer with a drum of fuel in the back?

With OFT/Flex Fuel kits available it would be totally feasible to fill up a few canisters of E85 and take it to the track, switch to an e85 tune, run all day and fill up on 94 on the way back.

Im planning to fill all my jerry cans with E85 and keep them stored in my garage for daily driving.

Just kidding... Its a daily driver and occasionally a track car so thats my plan. If I can run E85 at least for track days/special weekends it would be awesome. The problem with Ethanol its very delicate and Im not even sure if its safe to transport in the trunk at free will... it sucks not having E85 gas stations in Canada, that's a big problemo

You can even run E85 a little longer after the track and enjoy the gains for a day or two, eventually switch back to 91-94 pump gas. The problem is getting the right mixture and being able to monitor it. I know with COBB Accessport you can monitor your ethanol mixture but not so sure with OFT

If you're going with higher than e10, get a proper flex fuel setup with ethanol sensor. I'd go EcuTek since last time I checked there's no Cobb Accessport for our cars.



One thing to keep in mind, you'll go through a lot more e85 than pump 94 at the track, so you'll need a lot of jerry cans. You'll probably need about 100L per day.

The TDG regulations are going to make that interesting. You can only carry 30L without placarding the vehicle, having all the proper packaging/secured, required TDG training certs, manifests and all the other fun stuff that goes with transporting hazardous materials. You get caught by the police or MTO without all the required documentation you can be fined up to $100,000. You don't even want to know what it would cost if you had an accident or spill on a public road!

As far as I know, currently, there is only one E85 pump in Canada and that is in Calgary, I live in Calgary but closest track is 270km away!
I wascontemplating on switching for a while now, unfortunately this puts a break on it.

Look on the bright side. You're driving an FT86, so at least it will be a slow death.

Isn't this covered by the 150kg gross mass exemption (and 500kg for drums with the right labels)? This is in an enclosed trailer though, not passenger vehicle.
