Just a Little History
 

I Have a mostly complete 1985 sales brochure in pieces in a file at my house, so I decided I would scan the images in and share. I apologize that they are not the greatest quality as my scanner is not big enough for the sales brochure.

These are all the ones i have of toyota i believe.

If they made that car new, I could seriously consider buying it. Those cars had so much more personality that just about anything recent. I love how cars of that era had very simple interior layouts, that in my opinion, felt more open and spacious than they actually were. The thing I miss most is the light weight. Thanks for posting.

I've always said that car companies should try short runs of some of their older classics with updated interior/possibly engine. The interior/engine bit wouldn't be expensive just because they could parts bin for that. Not sure how much fabricating the body would be but they've already got most of the design out of the way anyway. It's really a shame current laws would throw a big monkey wrench into that idea though as far as a completely unmolested classic chassis. Stupid pedestrian laws! =(

Legally, they couldn't make these cars in the USA. They wouldn't meet modern emission and safety standards.
50 miles per gallon? That's a really big deal right? Even modern day hybrids can barely make that, if at all. GM had a car 15 - 20 years ago that got that kind of mileage - the Geo Metro.
It couldn't be produced today.

i've had 6.5" tall people in the front seat of my ae86 no problem at all, they where really surprised at the leg room it had with the seat backed on the rails,

i think from memory the same era "wedge" honda prelude had wicked space too,

this could not be done in my m3 as comfortably, and in a lotus your knees make sweet love with the lower dash,

I am glad you guys liked it. I always thought I had the full brochure, but some of the spreads are cut off, so I am certain that a page or two are missing.

Do upload your sales brochures new and old if you have them. It may be cool to get a collection of brochures going on in here.

NoAE86, I just sold my E46 M3 on Saturday. That car could fit just about any sized driver. What model of M3 did you have?

Back in '85 when I was in university and driving a new GTI (which I was stupid to buy as a poor student), my friend bought a new SR-5. About 6 months later he traded it in for an '86 Corolla GTS.His mom had the front drive Corolla same year.
I really liked the Celica GTS more than my GTI. More power, rear wheel drive, Japanese quality vs a US manufactured notoriously buggy Golf.


When I saw the 86 tie in to the FR-S I was half way sold!

To the guy who said they should do old car remakes: I sell pre-engineered buildings. A few years ago I received a call from an engineer at Toyota Mfg. in Cambridge ON. They wanted a steel building to store out of use stamping dies, etc. Got me wondering...do they save those dies for years and years to make the replacement parts? If so, potentially if the tooling still exists an old car could be remade if demand and legality were covered. In my pinball machine collecting/restoring hobby they actually have people who do limited runs of old titles. In fact there is a fellow in Sydney AU that has $2K deposits from all kinds of people for years waiting to get in on a remake of a 1997 game (Medieval Madness) that is in big demand. It will never happen. Same with old cars. To esoteric a product to sell in big mumbers to justify the expensive outlay.

Maybe someone can collect deposits to finance this enterprise....ummm I mean scam, because realistically if could never happen.

I have had a number of GTS and SR5 AE86 models. I followed this car from its inception. I am very happy with the result and would say it is very similar to the classic feel. I think they did a great job. I just hope people can understand the car. I get a lot of comments when I tell people I sold my M3 to pick this up. haha oh well.

oh im quite short at 176cm tall so i fit in my cars easy, not saying any m3 is small, i was more pointing out the space available in a mid 80's AE86 of such small external shape to internal room, its like they ported another cubic meter from somewhere:) my 6'5 friend walks to my ae86 and his face was
"we riding in this?! you got to be kidding me"
but get in and is
"wow this is really roomy"


got our e90 m3 2 weeks ago, loving every v8 moment of it... but still want a gt86/brz to please the 17 year old in me:wub:


the engine was called the TC-16 in america? not seen that before, interesting
