HID Plug 'n Play Kit

Just got my headlights retrofit with my plug-n-play HID 6000K. Install was pretty straight forward and clean, no messy wiring under the hood. It comes with a slim ballast.

Stock on left, 6000K on the right.

Let me know if anyone is interested, i believe the kits are around $75.

This was with morimotos retrofit kit from the retrofit source ?

MmmHamSandwich 07-29-2012 11:19 PM

Take note everyone, last picture tells you everything you need to know about PnP kits.

*Insert sigh here*

This and blacked out tails are going to be a plague for this car, I can feel it already.

Hell no. That cutoff is turds. The TRS kit is a legitimate retrofit with projector swap. This is just a bulb swap, not a true retrofit.

Which is why I was confused with "retrofit plug n play"

Yeah, you have your terminology correct. While the morimoto kit may not be plug n play, it is a direct bolt in. If I get an FR-S instead of a BRZ I'll be buying the TRS kit no questions. The intro price would have been nice, but a standard retro will cost you $300 in labor alone and the install won't be as clean as a direct bolt in. I'm stoked for Scion owners to have the option.

The difference is dramatic, no glare,
and the high beams are amazing, high beams on below:thumbup:

After aiming the retrofitsource kit the difference really stood out on a very dark straight 2 lane road, the road was clearly lit up and yet the opposing lane was dark, you can actually see the cut off line for the opposing lane. My apologies for the poor quality pictures.

Not retrofit, cheap ghetto drop in kit. Mod can change title.

why is there soooo much hate towards PnP HID kits?

KO7 07-30-2012 12:59 AM

Because the glare blinds oncoming people. Do it right with retrofits or don't do it at all.

styl3z 07-30-2012 01:02 AM

Sorry, I'm a noob when it comes to HIDs, but won't the retrofit blind oncoming as well since HIDs are brighter no matter if its PnP or retrofitted?

you beat me too it, I dont get why this is such a hard concept to grasp...lets take a moment of silence for those that are currently being blinded by pnp kits

If you look at the first pic by OP, you can see the glare above the cut off line. In a real retrofit, there wouldn't be this glare that goes in the drivers faces. The retrofit gives the light a clean cut off.

If you ever drive behind a car that comes with stock HID's, yes it'll be brighter than cars that don't come with projectors. But hell, it's not as bad as driving behind someone with projectors running HID's, you'll feel like you're staring straight into a flashlight.

So the glare is what is hitting the floor in OPs first pic right? Other than that, they only real difference that I see is the color. What about this squirrel mod that people are doing? Doesn't that fix the problem?
