common faults
 

hi fellas
im a new owner of a sub brz 15' .
i would like to know what are the common faults/known and weak spots of these cars and what to look for to avoid as possible as i can from those problems.

Most of the major problems have been taken care of before the '15 model.
Don't worry too much.

Just keep an eye on your fluids (coolant and engine oil esp.) and for any oil stains around your engine.

Get familiar with your transmission. If you start hearing* squeeking or squeeling, replace the throwout bearing if you got a manual.

What is this tsb noise? Got a video or a good description of how it is?
Tbh my clutch seems to be ok(not as smooth as my other manual cars but still feel healthy)

Like @Bonburner mentioned, mind the fluid levels, follow the maintenance schedule and just enjoy driving your car. If your car gets to hurting it will usually send you a signal via a dash light.

Oh yes, if the clutch starts making whining, screeching or screaming sounds, read up about the TOB (Throw Out Bearing) (release bearing). Nope there isn't anything you can do to prevent it from going bad, except to replace it.

If you want to avoid something bad from happening to your car - stay waaaay back from parking stops … :(

Probably even easier because its a small palm sized part swap and you don't have to worry about replacing or resurfacing the flywheel.

Are you from the state of Illinois? If so, I would suggest you stick with a 0-w20 oil in the winter, especially if you park outside - the car will start easier - ;)

The parking stops I'm, referring to are the concrete stops and the end of parking spaces. They are just tall enough to scrape the front lip - :(

I didn't mean to imply that changing a TOB is a "messy" job. Unless your car is in a gravel driveway, at night, the temperature is below 0 degrees F, your only light is a coal oil lantern and the snow is blowing under the car from both directions - then it can get messy - :eyebulge:
