Whitewater rafting day trip - Central Oregon 8/15

Anyone interested in taking a day off this week and driving your 86 out to Maupin for a day of whitewater rafting? I'm thinking we leave Portland at 9am, hit Maupin at around 11am, on the river by noon. We'd be off the river about 5pm, hit Imperial for dinner and a beer and then home by 8pm.

Although I usually use my own raft, I want to drive my FR-S, so we could rent a raft and gear through a friend's rental shop and they could shuttle us, too. Cost would be $50/person to cover rental and shuttling costs. I've been rafting that section of the Deschutes for 30 years, guiding for 20.

Worst week for it because of work but I want to go so bad! Maybe I can pull a thursday.

Wish I could go!

The family tries to go at least once a year. Here's a photo of our last trip on the Oconee River in TN from July 4th. I'm the one looking at the camera laughing hysterically at my son who just got dumped trying to "ride the bull". You can see him just in front of the raft. That's his wife in the foreground, on the left, obviously less than concerned...

Nice! I've got some great photos through the years, too. I usually organize 1-3 trips every year and I've had some great rafts. Just down to one right now, but always shopping. Trying to find a 12-foot self-bailer to add to the collection cause the smaller boats always seem to tip easier... and tipping is the fun part! Hehe.

Zach, so far you are the only one... maybe we gotta push this back a week or two to get a few more people in?

Next week would be way better for me, could actually plan a day off for any day but monday.

DarrenDriven 08-01-2012 12:18 AM

Oops, I can;t next week. How about Tues/Wed/Thurs the week after? 14th, 15th or 16th. Anyone else in?

The 15th is my B-day. Sounds like that may be a good day to take off. When do you need to make the commitment for the raft?

Man I wish i could go!

No commitment needed. I am going to bring 1 or 2 teenage kids along with me... there is room for 2-4 more people in the raft. We can make the decision the day before if we want.

I think @Zach can get the day off... now maybe 1 or 2 more 86 owners that want to join us?

DarrenDriven 08-13-2012 02:06 AM

@NickFRS can't make it because of work, but I think that @digital_assassin is in. What about @Zach? Anyone else?

Probably roll out around 10am, cruise to Maupin to get our raft and hit the river!
