Has anyone seen any higher-mileage cars have a valve spring fail? I read somewhere else that it happens most commonly when the car is pretty much brand new. My car is at 114,000 kms. I don't like the idea of giving my car to a dealership for a problem that will probably not happen, but then again I've taken chances before and it hasn't worked out.

I'm at almost 170k km's, and it hasn't lived an easy life. No broken springs at all, or any internal troubles for that matter. |
I'm at 162k, and no valve spring issues (knock on wood). I've had P0018 and had that repaired, and now I've got an ignition coil going bad (CEL turns on and off every few days but car runs totally normal).
Other than that, no other engine issues to report. |

spark plugs - $parts cost motor mounts - $no cost - 1/2hour labour, depending on how long it takes them. I provided the parts. that's all I'm getting done. They will visually inspect the clutch and oil pan and let me know if either should be replaced (or clutch serviced, tob, etc). I don't have TOB squeal and the clutch is a bit worn but drives fine so I'm not worried. |
Waiting to see if anyone else from my local area has a good experience with the local Toyota dealer. Like other's have said I don't want to be the first one. Car has 43000km. I'll get plugs and TOB done since the parts are cheap. Clutch should be good / not worth changing?
I'll schedule once the weather and roads stop being salty. |
Heard from a friend that Richmond Hill Subaru has been able to get parts for the recall. Might be worth a shot for the BRZ owners.

Called Weitzes Toyota to confirm the recall notice is ok to bring in after April 1 when the car goes back on the road.
I was informed that since I have headers and a supercharger installed I will be required to pay a $500 fee for an extra 4 or 5 hours. Alternately I can remove the equipment from my car prior to service. I wonder if any dealer would be more fair? They charged me an arm and a leg for a starter motor last year so I guess I am a mark now. |
Finally booked in for the valve spring recall service, car goes in mid-march and they expect to have the car for 2 days. Getting clutch release bearing and spark plugs done at the same time and I'll only be charged for the parts. Any other small time items it would be a good idea to ask them to do while the motor is out? Car is at 66000 kms and is not experiencing any other troubles.

170k km's and got it done. Took 2 full days. Nothing to report after I got my car back.

My BRZ just went in today for the valve spring recall. Having them replace the spark plugs and the clutch release bearing while they're at it. The spark plugs come out as part of the recall so I'm just being charged parts on that. I'm providing the bearing but they want to charge 20 minutes labor for it so I said that's fine, much better than paying full price.
Also having them give a go at my rad support bracket. It's bent up on one side from when I went over a curb once and I've been unsuccessful in bending it back myself. I think I could get it to move with a sledge but that involves removing everything in front of the engine which it seems they need to do for the recall anyways so it's just good timing. |
I didn't receive any letters from the dealer! Should I make a call now?? My engine starts to make loud noise

What year was your car was built? Only some 2013s were affected. If you haven't received a recall letter, there is a good chance that your car is not affected. However, you may wish to contact the government and/or the manufacturers web sites to check your car's VIN. humfrz |
Hey, just wondering if anyone from Nova Scotia has had this recall done. At this point I’m more scared to have it done then just leave it alone. My 2013 FRS only has 56,000km and runs great.......for now.
