Re syncing with TPMS while parked in driveway
Hi all,
I'm curious about how the TPMS work. Put my winters on last weekend. no sensors. It seems like my car is able to read the sensors in my summers in the basement. A good 30-40 feet away and through several inches of concrete. Each morning the tire pressure light is off. It comes on about 20 minutes from home and stays on until i get back home. the next morning its off again and the cycles repeats. Is it really reading my tires in stored in the basement or is it just resetting each morning, Regards Gramps |
I actually can go quite some time without my tpms light turning on. I have my stock wheels in the backroom of my house and im pretty sure mine does the same as yours and resyncing.

That's a pretty long ways, but if the light is not on when you start the car then it has synced to the TPMS. It takes about 20 miles or so of driving until the ECU rechecks for TPMS sync. That's when the TPMS light comes on and flashes a few times before going solid.
You noticed that when you leave work, the light stays on. If the car never finds the TPMS sensors (or a sensor is bad or you have low air in a sensor), the light will continue to stay on. |
