Are taiwanese/Chinese big brakes a good idea?

Ideally for my application I would like to have brembo/ endless/ project mu etc something but my car but it doesn't seem there is a application for the prius.

I originally was gonna go with R1 concepts BBK made in taiwan. (cost of it was about 2200 for a 6 pot /356mm drilled rotor/ss line etc.

I figure well if I'm gonna go china /taiwan brakes there quality can't be too diff from the other. From my understanding alot of these brakes all come from the same factory with their own company logo and mark up.

There's a company called PB brakes (Phat boy brakes in taiwan) where I could get a similar set up for about 1150 shipped from taiwan.

PB can be had w/ out the logo's on the caliper

Thoughts?

Honestly just buy bbk covers. You drive a Prius, who you trying to fool?
Joking aside, I'll be a tad bit worried if these are castings. If they are machined I'll trust it a bit more.
I'll pay a bit extra for the extended warranty if they offer it.

It's all for the bling! Lol a caliper cover wouldn't have the nice looking large 2 peice rotor and nice caliper. I have the same wheel on my car and it looks amazing behind them

I imagine they are cast tho not forged like you said.

2200 is same price as ap racing isn't it. Brembo is more but its brembos yo, lol

BBK is a big purchase, I'd save the extra cash for the one you really want

I was very happy with AP racing Sprint

BBK on Prius? Which is to save money on fuel, will never be tracked, and trying to bling it out will make one look poser. Next will be questions regarding BBKs/flush fitment/hella-camber for eighteenwheelers.

Don't even try to understand it. It's part of the Honduh/hellaflush/stance fad.

It's the same mentality that make people buy $300+ Nikes. It's still the exact $70 shoe with more "limited" colors. But whatever. Just point and laugh. We don't get it. They also point and laugh at us. :iono:

CSG Brembo V1 is less than any AP kit! :confused0068:

F40 caliper, about 16mm wider than a PP Brembo, includes pads, etc etc

There you have it, win win

And now I just realized this thread is about a Prius. In any case big brakes look cool on any car IMO

The amount of rotor runout (axial and lateral) and measurable caliper flex I saw on a low end BBK was insane. I would never run them on my personal car for any reason (and would not sell them to anyone).

It was shiny and had 6 pistons though!

Wilwood is no better and they are a "name brand"

No this is not even remotely true. Not even a little. Not at all.
You will get what you pay for. End of story.

We test various different rotors and calipers every day. Some of the stuff that comes out of Chine is fine and some is complete and total trash that only a fool would put on their car. They may look fine but that is where it ends. It isn't the county that they are made in or even the plants that actually make them it is the specifications and acceptable quality criteria of the company that orders them that is at fault. Some have very stringent requirements and all ISO and QS Standards must be met so you have a product that is the same as made anyplace else in the world. Some have the basic requirements of being shiny and having 6 pistons. Those are not so great and could actually kill you.

If you are going for the bling factor of having a cool BBK; Don't fake it and get a generic looking kit.

People will ask "are those brembos?" And you will have to say, "nah I saved a few pennies and got Chinese parts."

That story sucks.

Tk rocket 10-30-2018 06:49 PM

Had brembo gts on my civic. I just can't find off the shelf kits for my application except the made taiwan stuff.

R1 concepts
Pb brakes
Alliance(made by made pb)
Futura design(made by pb)
Ceika brakes
Ksport
