Help Diagnosis This Coilover Sound (video included)

Anyone know how to remedy this situation?? I am getting a similar sound (if not the exact same).

Myself and my mechanic (disclaimer: He only had a little bit of time to investigate it but checked all bolts, etc) have tried but maybe we missed something??

PS. Not my video but same sound.

Edit: Looks like from other responses, that my response was incorrect.

That's the coilover "clunk". A roller bearing upgrade should solve this, IIRC.

So faulty/broken part? I have never had issues with coilovers in the past and these have less than 3000 miles on them.

PS. Tein Flex Z's

Are your endlinks tightened down/adjusted correctly?

strat61caster 10-29-2018 04:08 PM

+1 swaybar endlinks

Yes had that done last week.

Have you serviced your top mounts, i.e. grease?

Something loose in the suspension.

I have coil bind on my car and it only clunks during turns not on bumps like yours. I would definitely check the sway bar endlinks. Mine loosened up quite a bit after I installed my front bar.

No, but I'll give that a go. (though the coilovers have barely seen any miles. I mean my car has like 6000 something miles on it in 1.6 years and is garage kept.)

Okay a little update. Some BRZ/86 friends of mine wrenched on the car for 3-4 hours and still didn't fix the issue. We tried everything....twice lol.

So (luckily) one of my friends works at Subaru and we headed over to have multiple master mechanics have a go. They hit all the usual culprits and came to a conclusion that it was either the coilover top hat (pillowball) or the ball joint. I guess now i'll replace the ball joint and see what happens, as it's probably easier to get than the Tein parts.

Stay tuned for more exciting episodes of the "Case of the Clunking Coilover"

Unless you've done twenty track days in the car that's less than two years old it's unlikely to be the oe ball joint.
