With the help of Google Translate, it tell us that it's possible that certain 86/BRZ may have spring valve failure which will could result in engine damage.

From Google translate:

Subaru found that there was a risk of engine parts being destroyed, and it was found that it will notify the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transportation about large scale recalls (collecting / free repair) about multiple models. There is a possibility that it will be affected not only in Japan, but also on models sold overseas. It seems that there are at least hundreds of thousands target.

It is said that engine parts called valve springs will fail and there is a risk that the operation of the engine will be affected. It seems that the strategic model sold in the US and Japanese markets will be targeted. The sports car "BRZ" is also included.

Toyota's sports car "86 (Hachiroku)" developed jointly with Toyota Motor and equipped with the same engine as "BRZ" will also be recalled.

I guess it could be only for "kouki" 86/BRZ since they specified it would be only on US and Japan cars. Japan and US are the only market that got the "high output" engine.

If any one have more info on that, post it there !

This has already been found for a few months on 2018 cars in the issues and warranties section....

I just thought i'd mention Subaru just settled a lemon lawsuit with me. The issue? Valve spring failure. Thing that is concerning though is that they made 3 replacements, the last time being a full engine replacement on my 2017 BRZ w/ PP. The issue might be gone now, but it took several months to finally get my car running again which is why I sued them. Subaru needs to get their shit together with these crappy engines. Maybe after this recall they'll put a little more effort.

Well that's not too encouraging. November 5th can't come soon enough, need to know how widespread this recall is going to be.

"The recalled Subaru vehicles were made between January 2012 and September 2013"

excerpt from WSJ article:

"TOKYO— Subaru Corp. FUJHY -0.22% is picking up a hefty tab to recall over 400,000 vehicles globally to repair a faulty engine part that could cause stalling.

The recall affects its popular Forester sport-utility vehicle and Impreza compact, as well as the BRZ sports car. It also affects the Subaru-made Toyota 86 sports car, which was sold in the U.S. as the Scion FR-S during the period covered by the recall. All the cars were made in 2012 and 2013.

Last week, Subaru cut expectations for April-September, the first half of the Japanese financial year. The company now expects an operating profit of ¥61 billion ($540 million), a reduction of ¥49 billion from its prior projection, mostly to cover recall-related costs. The company said it would outline the impact of the recall for the full year when it announces second-quarter earnings Monday.

Subaru said valve springs in the recalled cars could fracture and cause the engine to stall, risking an accident. These springs keep engine valves closed when the fuel is being combusted. Failure can cause severe engine damage.

The repairs are likely to be costly. Subaru believes the work will take more than 12 hours.

Toyota said its vehicles account for around 80,000 of the total. In the U.S., Toyota is recalling around 25,000 Scion FR-S models manufactured between March 2012 and July 2013. The company said it would contact affected U.S. owners by mail starting in December.

The recalled Subaru vehicles were made between January 2012 and September 2013. Subaru said 101,000 of the recalled vehicles were sold in Japan. A company spokesman declined to say how many were being recalled in the U.S. Subaru sold nearly 270,000 of the three affected models in the U.S. during the period covered by the recall.

Last week’s earnings disclosure, made after markets had closed in Japan, caught investors by surprise. The next day Subaru’s share price dropped nearly 7%.

On the day of the announcement, Tokyo-based auto analyst Takaki Nakanishi criticized Subaru for the lack of detail, saying in a client note that it “raises questions about the quality of its investor relations.” At the time he wrote that he anticipated a recall of between 1 million and 2 million vehicles, a number echoed in some Japanese press reports.

A Subaru spokesman said it had been unable to provide more detail in its initial disclosure because it hadn’t yet made the required filings with regulators."

Your spring failure happened in a '17? Odd since the recall is suppose to be for early '13s. How did you know the spring failed? What happened?

Well if you actually had spring failure you are the only one ever to report it.

So if I look at my driver door jamb, it should say when it was manufactured? If it’s before July 2013, then I should expect a recall?
