UPDATE...so I was driving on the highway to Sydney and a little something hit the windscreen. You can see where the impact was made near the top and how it spread.

get windscreen protection on your insurance... then put a claim through in a few weeks time...
No idea on price. $400-500 ? |
was it near roadworks.... actually is there any road works on that freeway .... file a report that it occurred near the road works... get council to pay for it. But you will need to go to court in the area of the council.
It did happen near the road works didnt it. I had it happen to my old car 1 street away from my house due to road works. Honestly. Took photo's of the road works... rocks everywhere, road wasn't sweeped after they were working. Council paid for it. |
It had to be a fairly big or sizable rock and it hit just hard enough to crack the windscreen, seriously the condition of roads in Australia nowadays, I had this happen to my Honda Jazz once and it cracked the windscreen just like yours.
I claimed it through insurance. Thing you gotta watch out is make sure whoever's replacing the windscreen gets the rubber seal etc put back in place properly if not it can cause leaks, rattles and whatnot. |
could be anything mate, you might be windscreen obriens first 86 so i would ring them and do a deal with them to get it done at a discount in exchange for you giving them the car to make their own jig for the glass or whatever it is they do.
