Lucas diff oil
Has anybody tried the Lucas 75W-90 rear diff fluid? I need to change mine ahead of a decent sized road trip I'm doing on Friday and this seems to be the highest quality available locally. Other than this it's just Valvoline and Mobil 1 and I've never been impressed with anything from either of them so don't want to bother unless someone says it's worth the effort. https://lucasoil.com/products/gear-o...hetic-gear-oil

Just curious, have you tried anything else beside the stock fluids?
I've got Motul Gear 300 LS in mine and I'm enjoying it. Seems to be smoother torque transfer than stock - of course it could be just my head. |
Nope I haven't. The last time I did it about 60k miles ago I got it from a local Toyota dealer but they don't have it anymore in anything other than their shop bucket and none of the Subaru dealers in the area have it either. In fact my regular dealer said they have never had it or even ordered it for anybody. The amazing thing is for ~$30-40 worth of fluid they want $200 to change it.

What did they put in at the 60k diff change? Every dealership I asked never had anything that met manual suggestions.
Instead they had some no brand manual transmission fluid on their shelves :iono: |
I did it and it was the stock Toyota 75W-90 diff oil. They had it in quarts but don't anymore.

It would be the same thing as what ever gear oil you put in. The only difference is how much you pay for it. New oil is always better no matter what brand.
Heck, you'll be fine with out doing the diff oil change. |

Try what redline has for the dif? I see a lot of good complements on that brand.

What did you do or what where you doing when you started noticing the issues? |

If it's cheap, why not give it a try? Throw 'er in ther'.

Done. I took it for a couple of miles at varying speeds with a few uphill starts, the noise is still there but nowhere near as loud as it was and the shudder is gone. The guy that did it said the old fluid "wasn't lubrication anymore" and there was a fair bit of shavings on the plug but nothing he would be concerned about especially at 108k. I'll give it a better run tomorrow after I do the front brake pads and rotors.

I'm thinking about swapping out the diff fluid every 30-40k now |
