im in the market for a BRZ/86. i have seen a few 2017 86's go for around 20k. on the other hand i have seen a few BRZ's going for 25k. the BRZ's come with the PP. i was wondering if the 5k price difference would be worth it. i have read a few articles on the PP. i tried looking here too, but if someone could provide some insight it would be greatly appreciated.:iono:

Just like PC's...build your own imo. For 5k I'd bet you can do much better than subaru, like a turbo kit.

Daily driver?
Auto-x?
Track days?
Lots of track days?
Time attack?

IMO for a basic DD, you don't really need the PP. Nice to have, but certainly not a must have. Drive them both and see which suspension you like better. The brembos don't offer much of an advantage on the street other than a slightly better feel and...well...bling. Which is cool. And the OEM PP wheels do look a lot better too.

For some "light" or occasional track days, the PP brembos makes sense and do the job well (just change pads and fluid). The PP shocks do a good job whether you keep the suspension stock or add a set of springs + alignment goodies. Also good for more focused canyon carvers.

For more intense track days or competition, the base car with aftermarket options is a good way to go for many. You'll be replacing the suspension and could do better than the PP brakes.

this would be a weekend car. track day couple times a year but mostly for drives in the canyons.

Add brake pads, brake fluid, and an oil cooler for track days.

I'd say - get PP for money it costs as option at purchasing new, where it is well price/performancy ratio priced. Certainly too expensive if one will want to retrofit later on by purchasing parts separately with usually aftermarket providing better and cheaper options. I bought my car slightly used and years ago when it was not an option, but if i'd be buying it now & new, i'd probably get PP option for both if daily driven and or if tracked too. For it's price as option for new car it's worth it.

This has been done many times before. The PP is worth it all day long, unless you are building a full on race car.

The difference between a limited and limited with PP is just over a grand. Better ride quality, brakes, and wheels for $1K. If you’re already buying a limited it’s a no brainer.

$5k (OP is comparing $20k used cars to $25k newer/higher spec cars) buys 4 sets of brake pads and ~16 track days, ($250 per track day, $500 for pads+fluid for 4x track days) so if OP owns the car for five years and does 3 track days per year then sells the car he comes out well ahead by my math, you still need to buy track pads for the PP brakes, the rest of the differences are negligible to meaningful performance for amateur drivers IMHO.

Seat time and instruction and practice are more valuable than the shiny bits.

I reckon the standard 86 would suit your needs just fine (maybe change the tires). - :thumbsup:

The stock suspension is stable, the brakes are good and in the canyons, it should stay cool enough because you will be going downhill half of the time.

The only parts left from the performance package on my little beastie are the Brembo's

I didn't rate the suspension and I didn't like the rims.

I did get a killer bargain on mine though, the Limited Editions here are solar orange with the PP as standard (60 only released in AU).

It seems no one wanted the solar orange with a white undercoat engine bay with overspray, (god bless the review muppets who said the colour was too intense and didn't rate the engine bay colour) and most just sat at the dealers unsold.

Mine sat at the dealer for 8 months with no one interested in it.

I pulled the "serving member" card, on the last day of the month, said I would pay cash there and then, got it for the price of a normal GTS, or 5k off their RRP for it.

If I hadn't got the deal I wouldn't have bothered and just grabbed some aftermarket brakes if required.

The Brembo's do look sweet and even with stock pads perform brilliantly on the street and in the hills.
