Bad tranny
I bought my 14 FR-s in May 2014. It has 46,000 miles on it. Other than having to replace the blower motor, its been trouble free-until yesterday. Got in the car in the morning and clutch pedal was spongy, the engine whined when I engaged the clutch at a stop, and the car stalled when engaging the clutch at stops and going forward. So the clutch is shot, the flywheel needs to be resurfaced, and all the rest that comes with this. $1500.00! I've been driving a stick on and off for 44 years and have never had a problem-and I owned a '77 Mazda RX-2 once! I don't ride the clutch, put it in neutral at stops, don't rest my hand on the stick, and avoid down shifting if I can. Anyone else have problems with the transmission?

avoid downshifting...?...if that was a concern on your mind I don't think you were that comfortable with a stick! I've put 50 K on my '16, my first DD with a stick, and I engine brake by rowing down all the gears every day on my commute to work...no issues. If you do it properly there should be very minuscule wear.. The only somewhat common drivetrain issue has been the TOB for pre-17s..

I agree this seems to be a throwout bearing failure from the info given. When getting the replacement work done make sure they get the revised p/n (#30502AA150) for the newer TOB.
Also have to agree with above... downshifting doesn't kill clutches, improper downshifting does (not rev-matching). |

If you look around over this forum, you will find that your car isn't the first one to need a new TOB and sometimes associated parts. On the bright side, with the new, improved TOB, you car should be good to go for more than another 46,000 miles. - I have been driving stick for over 70 years and - and - and - what were we talking about ? - :confused0068: humfrz |
That’s why auto ftw lol lol

I don't get it either. Downshifting is just as important as upshifting. As long as you rev match, and the car doesn't jerk it means you're not damaging anything by downshifting. |

Don't worry it's the clutch TOB.... known issue, mine was shot at like 49k miles. Make sure they put the updated one it. |
For those who had the TOB issue, was this a symptom?
No noise but as I press the clutch all the way down I feel a little resistance, on, off, on, off.... like ribbing? Nothing else. Very faint pulsing... Tks. |

Hell, I can remember what I was NOT talking about - that's everything except what I WAS talking about. NOW, who in the hell are you and why are you talking - cause you don't even know what I wasn't talking about - :iono: humfrz |
