How to make sure I don't get charged for XM/Starlink?
Just got a new BRZ a few days ago and it came with free trials of Subaru Starlink and SiriusXM. I just wanted to make sure I don't have some weird subscription included in my car purchase paperwork that's going to keep these services going. I know Sirius can be a huge pain to actually cancel and I don't even know how to cancel Starlink.

At the end of a year you will get about ten thousand offers to renew. Five years and I still get them.

If you gave out your credit card number in the paper work, then you have to call the 800 number to cancel the renewal. If you didn't give out your credit card it would just stop working after the free trial period.
For starlink read the manual and call the 800 number. Simple huh? |
Thanks guys! No CC used so looks like I'll just wait it out.

BRZ doesn’t have Starlink subscription so nothing to worry about there.

ive never activated the trial on any of the 3 cars i had so that works

Mine never worked, even with the free trial. I've only been harassed, never charged.

I received a phone call from a SirusXM rep. about a week after delivery. She wanted to know if I had been told about the free three months trial, if I'd been shown how to access the different stations and a host of other things. She was very pleasant but then she wanted to get me to sign up in advance. That way I'd not loose a minute of their service. She really didn't want to take NO! for an answer.
The wife had the same thing after her three month trial was nearing it's end. I expect a barrage of calls and emails to start within then next two months. Oh joy, the fun of buying a new car... |
I basically had to threaten them..

"I'm sorry sir, what's not good enough?" "That deal. You need to come up with a better one." "Well I uh... This is the only offer I have..." "Sorry, not good enough." "Uh. What kind of deal were you looking for?" "You gave my dad 5 years for $150. I want that deal." "Sir, we don't have a deal like that." "Bullshit. You gave my dad that deal. You can give me that deal." "Sir, I can't give you that deal." "Okay, then call me back when you can." The calls stopped after that. I haven't received a single call since that conversation. Fact is, they DID give my dad that deal after he left his radio disconnected for about five years. The longer you wait, the better the deal gets. Recently they sent me a deal for 12 months for $60 with no activation fee, so I reactivated. I have an entry in my calendar to automatically remind me to cancel just before the the renewal date, and we'll start this game over again. |

I don't care to use XM as I only listen to my own music. Biggest mistake with activating it when I purchased my car. I just thought "it's free so whatever" at the time of purchase. Never again. All the damn spam mails, calls, and emails... Holy ****. I had to tell them, in many ways, to **** off.
If I ever have to buy a new car again, I'll make sure this "option" is absolutely removed. |
