Mid-Engine 86

I recently found a rendering done by Rain Prisk, a talented digital artist, of what a mid-engine 86 (with a BRZ front) might look like. I'm curious as to the feasibility of something like this.

As the rendering shows, the area in front of the rear wheels needs to be lengthened, and the cabin gets pushed forward. The back seats are useless, so that space won't be missed. The battery, master cylinders, ABS pumps, radiator, all can stay in the front area. Maybe squeeze a 3-liter flat-six in there, or a 2.5-liter turbo?

As far as driving experience, I imagine it would be close to a Ferrari 488, or a Gallardo, less balanced that the current 86 but tons of fun.

Just an interesting idea. Not that Toyota or Subaru would waste any $$$ in developing it. Too bad.

In this imaginary world: why in that-world would this hypothetical car be less balanced? And, how would it possibly compare to a Lambo or Ferrari just from moving the engine? Will it cost the same as an LFA?

"Less balanced" wasn't the right phrase, I should say, balanced differently. I know people with 2nd-gen MR2s describe their driving dynamics as being Ferrari-like, but that may be a broad generalization (and wishful thinking.)

I love this guy's concepts. I found him some time ago and have had this image as my laptop's wallpaper for almost a year now.

Sorry, it's not "twins" relevant but interesting all the same.

Didn't Prodrive in the UK already build a two seat Subaru. Now if it only it looked like the Rain Prisk design...

I've only driven the AW11 MR2 with some heavy mods, but it is definitely not balanced in the FRS/BRZ/86 scheme of things. It will snap at you when you think all is well, where as our cars are a joy to drive and smooth at all points, the MR2 is the snap but not as forgiving when you over step, it can easily spin you around and throw you in a ditch.

That red mid-engined FRS looks sweet, wrong wheels though… but that's a easy fix. Is there a picture of the rear end ?

I always wondered, if Toyota will take their partnership with Subaru to the next level, and move the FA20 behind the driver, and take away the rear seats to make a..

wait for it....

Toyobaru MR-2 Boxer

and then, after that, Toyota and Subaru will collaborate even further, and use their Impreza STI, and make a 2 door coupe variant of that and call it the

wait for it...

Toyobaru Celica ALLTRAC (GT4 in other countries)

But then Toyota collaborated the BMW to make a Supra,
So I can only assume, Toyota will collaborate with another company to make their third sports car...like Lotus again, to make a
