About the time I could legally drive on the roads, this movie came out.

Yep, very cool to me at the time - :burnrubber:

Always into tinkering with things as a child, Bikes, skateboards, legos ect and making things better. Plus my dad even though we were poor always had some form of a sportscar (mustang, Camaro, mr2, ect.). Once he was getting too old to get in and out of cars he gave me his Dodge stealth which I learned wrenching on.

Then Grand Theft Auto came out and there was this car called the Coquette which had me interested in Corvettes. Somewhat modeled mine after it with the side spears, flush headlights and wheels haha

My dad was an engineer. He got me into airplanes, jets, building WWII models, and sent me down a slippery slope to math and physics. He could wrench a little bit and had some tools, but was not really a gearhead other than knowing how everything worked.

We used to go to bookstores a lot and I would read through Road & Track magazine. Every single word. This is like 1995 or so and I was 10 years old. Eventually we got a subscription and I would memorize vehicle weights and hp numbers from the index in the back. The Lotus Elise became my dream car.

Then Gran Turismo came out when I was 12 and that was it for me. The driving license tests, the tuning, the racecars. I remember testing all the "special" racecars in the game and I liked how the Impreza rally car handled the best. Subaru fan for life.

My oldest brother had a 1996 Eagle Talon (with super loud Greddy exhaust) and eventually a 2002 WRX. I read everything I could about those cars and joined NASIOC/I-club.

Later, I went to Virginia Tech, interned at the machine shop for a navy research lab, and eventually, I PMed Myles at RCE in 2004 asking for a job.

Cars can be pretty fun.

Truancy.

Surely a terrible reason. I was able to drive to school my senior year and some mornings would get "lost" on the way in. I'd then drive all day since, aside from the pool tables at a local bowling alley, there weren't many places you could go in Lancaster on a weekday. Haven't stopped driving since. Although I do reliably go to work. Most days.

Don't laugh, this was the best thing on tv when I was 5.

By time I was in 1st grade I was hardcore into planes.
To the point of knowing the difference between an aileron and an elevator.

Then along came a little game called Super Mario Kart.
Got hooked on racing.

Then just like Racecomp the first Gran Turismo came out and I dove headfirst into the world of tuning cars. Seems at the same age too.

I was in college when that show was on. Totally watched it.

I inherited it from my father, and my wife was not able to inoculate our two boys soon enough so they too are sick.

It got serious when I ran an R+D shop and had the place to myself at night.

I'd say its all the things said above in here for me...and the sight of pretty sports cars.
Just sight of them conjure joy for me. I recall watching Rocky 4 way back and the scene with Lambo Jalpa (which I didn't know what is was at the time).

It is also something else. Cars called out to something that is within us...something that was always there. What is it? My words can't capture it...but it is there...
