Instrument cluster mystery

When I first got my car, the center gauge with tach and digital speedo showed a nice bright, white readout, with the outer two modules dimly lighted. Then I played around with the dimmer rheostat a bit and all the sudden they're all equally illuminated and my white center ring is gone. I won't know until the evening again but it looked like the radio lighting was way low and I couldn't bring it up enough to really see it. I can't find anything in the manual that addresses this. I'm not quite ready to jump off a bridge over it, if but I did like the way it was before.

What to do, what to do...

I suggest you wait till it gets dark outside and check it out again.

You are aware that the cluster lighting changes when you turn on the headlights.

Now, back away from the edge of the bridge, take a deep breath and wait till someone else comes along with some insight - :)

Yes all of the above plus...

You are most likely overthinking the situation.

All will become clear in your mind later, or after it gets dark.

There are situations in which radio display can barely be seen in daylight, due to what has been set in radio memory. With car parked safely, push SETUP button, then DISPLAY option >top right on screen<, then options will be present to choose from for display lighting.

It's dark now. Things are still screwed up.

This is a drastic fix to return the ecu settings to stock, but pull the negative battery terminal for 60-90 seconds, while the negative terminal is pulled turned the key as if you were to start it and then remove the key as normal.

Reconnect the battery, and see if the lighting issues still exists, you'll have to reset your radio settings as well as clock and such but it should undo what you've messed with.

If it's still not normal it's either in your head or a deeper issue, buried in the head unit menu possibly

I think your radio was stuck on "Day Mode". Go to Display settings and enable "Day Mode"

Anyome else with a Monogram know if the dash illumination is different?

I have the same interior and center screen as you, and the dial to adjust the lighting uniformly changes the interior brightness. My center screen only has 2 settings: day and night mode. The interior brightness dial to the left of the steering wheel has nothing to do with the screen. Did they change that for 2014?

I'm not aware of any white readout or center ring in the gauge cluster. The numbers light up as do the hash marks, but that is all.

This picture matches what my car looks like at night (the left one, not the right which is the BRZ).

It would be a lot easier if the OP could just take a picture of his dash

It wasn't on mine. Stock FR-S illumination.

Here's what it was before. In addition to this weird thing, after I disconnected the battery to change steering wheels, I lost the indicator showing you what gear you're in. I know that's not in the manual so I'll have to find the secret handshake to get it back.

The picture is too small and dark for me to tell anything.

I thought the "secret handshake" for turning the gear indicator on/off was in the manual??

:iono: - I have a 2013 FR-S MT, so if my car has that feature, I'm not aware of it.

It is in the manual.
