The current twins are already right at 2,800 lbs. without forced induction or a hybrid system. It’s a pipe dream to think that they will add all of the components of forced induction and a hybrid system (especially the heavy battery pack and electric motor) and still weigh around 2800 lbs... not to mention it would have to be significantly more expensive than the current twins and would likely have even lower sales figures.

That is my prediction. The plight of the twins is going from relatively simple ( 2L boxer, not a lot of bells and whistles) , to a more techno 4cyl or small 6cyl boxer , hybrid system (around town, and highway cruising 55-65 mph eco mode) , that increases MPG by at least 15% , while maintaining the fun to drive spirit the car is intended to deliver ( possibly thru how the car is set up, but also possibly thru a sport mode that puts the full engine power to the rear wheels when accelerating).

Even at 2900 lbs .... maybe 2950 lbs. If they did a small 6cyl, it would most likely be at least 3000 lbs. Who knows , maybe Toyota/Subaru can pull it off in the next 2-4 years thru development. Technology is the way to our future !!!! .... either that, or ride a bike.

My second (last) prediction, is that Toyota/Subaru will continue to keep things simple , because that is the real key (not that things need to become more complicated / more techno).

Keep engine at similar output, maybe 210 hp/ 160 torque , but increase MPG by 10-12% ( 30 city / solid 40 hwy). Keep driving dynamics otherwise the same, same weight , slightly different looks, possibly a bit more aero, .:respekt: ... and evolve , or de-evolve from there.

*Success will be in the small, incremental changes (positive) in the right direction. The right direction involves higher MPG ,and higher torque (to get you up to speed, which also translates to better mpg)

Toyota and Subaru will split ending the current 86 run.

Toyota will move on as it now has a deal with BMW for a sporty RWD coupe, the Poopra.

easiest way for them to achieve that would probably be going with an 8 speed gearbox, tweak the 6 speed overdrive gears, larger displacement (which would increase hp and torque) and get rid of the torque dip. Plus if they could tweak the torque peak to arrive sooner in the rev band it.

ok, or even a 7spd gearbox ( Porsche does this, already). Larger displacement to a 2.4L ... or something like that most likely won't increase MPG.

I'd say keep it 2L , put a small turbo in it , try to achieve 200 torque!!! Yet keep weight at/near 2800 lbs (they can probably shave off some lbs somewhere, put that weight savings towards turbo weight / offset it). Get aero. OK, this is prediction #3 , and I hope they go this way in 2-4 years. :bow::respekt::party0030:
