That's it, we're getting an FR-S.
Came back from my local Toyota dealer and checked out the new FR-S with my wife. They had a Tornado Grey 6AT in the lot that was apparently just delivered to the dealer moments before we arrived. I personally loved the color, wife hated but we both eventually agreed to Ultramarine. It was a neat little car. We weren't able to test drive it on the streets but was able to thrash it around the parking lot a bit. Fun factor was definitely there.
A minor gripe of mine, but I'm not too fond of the fake carbon fiber found throughout the whole car. Seats were very comfortable and hugged you as you sat in it, great lumbar support too. The seating position was great where everything on the dashboard was easily accessible. Trunk space was adequate, but the rear seats having the ability to fold down was a plus in my book. Power output isn't enough imo. I do appreciate its lightweight chassis and soft suspension and know what the cars purpose is for, but I just can't help but feel disappointed once I put my foot down on the pedal. The paddles felt very responsive, especially when putting it into sport mode, shifts were amazingly fast and pulled nicely between 2-3.5k rpm. It also made a nice sound when downshifting and according to our salesman, it does so much more aggressively when in sport mode. Upgrades may be in the horizon. Long story short, the dealer offered us 27k OTD that day. We kindly declined and scheduled an appointment next week to go over payment plans and build our ideal FR-S... inevitably I may have to sell my Mustang. Bittersweet, but at 265k miles, my GT had certainly ran its course. FWIW, all of our cars have been daily driven and almost have a combined 400k miles between the GTO and Mustang alone. This car WILL be daily driven and would definitely see 200k miles, easy. We're expecting to drive this thing to the ground |
this should be in the frs section but congratulations! your gonna love the car. Real talk though, if there was a car there and it wasnt marked up, i would have bought it. i totally understand your decision, ultramarine is drop dead gorgeous

Grats! But wrong section. :P

Thanks guys and Ultramarine sure is a great color. Haven't seen it in person just yet, but our salesman showed us pictures of a recent buyers in that color and were instantly sold on it! We're a little jealous of you Subie guys cause WRB is one of my favorite colors, so just a shame we can't get it on the FR-S.
And ouch, can a mod. please move to the correct section? :) |
The good news is that these cars are loosening up quite nicely after break-in (8-11 whp being picked up), and that bolt-ons with a tune (big range here 23-37whp) will give the car the kick in the pants it needs...

A 2JZ swap in an FRS does nice :burnrubber: |

Maybe it's just me, but I feel this car has enough power... :iono:
... Probably because my previous two cars have been low horsepower cars, and I've gotten used to using / preserving the car's momentum more than anything else... OP: Glad you enjoyed the FR-S, and good luck with the order. |

http://www.ft86club.com/forums/attac...5&d=1322426691 If by some resemblance you mean "any black/dark pattern" then yeah ok. I love the pattern and it really brings out the cluster in real life (more than I expected based on pictures) |

I have a bit of an unrational dislike for any sort of faux carbonfiber. |

Of course, we'd all love additional power... But for this car's weight, balance, and price point... It's adequate, as you kindly pointed out. :) |

Didn't realize the Japanese invented carbon fibre 2000 years ago. That's called the 'seikaiha' pattern (also 'seigaiha'), meant to evoke the ocean's waves. I'll give you your point about how it looks carbon fibre-ish for the passenger side dashboard trim, but the instrumentation cluster is clearly this same pattern as seen above. |
