So here I am 4 months later and 5k miles on the odometer
I have no regrets, it's been a great car so far. TRD springs and sway bars were definitely a good choice. I've had zero issues because of them and I actually think the ride is more comfortable. The only thing I still feel I want to change though is at least the tires. Aside from grip in spirited driving, I've had a few times were I had to stop fast (LA commuting) and while the car itself was totally fine with it the tires gave out way too quickly. Anti lock brakes are almost worthless because the tires are like driving on pucks. I'm considering 3 options: 1) Just getting better tires, 2) 17x7.5 TRD wheels with better tires (can go slightly wider), or 3) some aftermarket 17x9 wheels (maybe wedssport t105x/n) I'll probably start autoxing the car soon, so I'm leaning towards the TRD wheels as they would give me the most grip without forcing me into a modified class and maintains a stockish look. Have to admit the car does look a LOT better with a 9 inch wide wheel though and I'm not really intending to try to win an autox series or anything, just for fun. |
Look at 17x8 wheels in a 35et offset. Should help with the sunken look and can save a bit of weight. To much tire ruins the fun of the car. Or you can do 17x8 with a et40 and add 3/5mm spacers. Should help with the sunken look.

Agreed. I'm running 17x7.5 35ET and I think it's just the right spacing. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...4c005c2c2c.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...074700bb52.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...3c40dbeac2.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...ff2eadf9e5.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...c88eed1a94.jpg |

Getting 17x9 wheels with 245/40s was possibly my favorite mod I've done to my car. If anything it bolstered and heightened the "original intent" of the car, which is for it to be a fun and exhilarating driving experience. |
Still waiting for aftermarket gas cap holder options.

I think it all depends on how people view fun. Some people enjoy a tail happy experience (which the stock 215s do) while others prefer the "on-rails" experience of a wider 235-245 tire.
At stock power levels, the grip of a 235 or 245 setup is pretty crazy on a summer tire. |
Get both. Grip and slide, learn how to do both. There is no better budget teacher for this than an 86.

How much is a set of those TRD wheels?
