There's nothing in its price range that looks as good, and a sweet base for modifications.

Beyond tires, those who need to mod this car, typically don't know how to drive properly yet. This is the reality. I know guys who turn in Faster lap times in their stock BRZ than guys in a 911 turbo.

TIL that $25000-$30000 is cheap.

People tend to forget that for some this is in fact an aspirational car. I know I had to save my pennies to buy a used one.

When grouping these cars in the same field as an ecobox, like a Versa or Yaris or Fit, which go for roughly $15000 new, you really dismiss just how much better this car is than an ecobox. They typically have ~120-130hp, really bad handling, and an interior that's much worse.
I actually lean the other way. I think this car punches waaay above it's weight class. Before kids I was able to get myself a 2011 BMW 335i, M-sport, extended leather, premium sound, M performance exhaust, you name it. I increased the boost, it puts down 340hp to the wheels, I love the thing. After switching my daily SAAB to my BRZ I realized this car is way better than its price tag suggests, and my 335i honestly barely gets driven. On days when I drive it to work I will walk to the parking lot at the end of the day and I get sad realizing I didn't drive the BRZ. The BRZ is way more fun to drive, but it's more than that. The seats are amazing, the ride is purposefully stiff but never punishing. The interior is nice enough to not miss my BMW and way nicer than other recent Subaru interiors, and it's roomy enough to drive my 3 yearold to preschool every day!

I hear this nonsense constantly regurgitated on forums.
You can't make up your own facts.

The fastest minivan on record is the Sienna V6 SE,
which has a 0-60 time of 7.1 seconds.

BRZ has a 0-60 of 6.2 seconds.

BRZ has a faster 0-60 than every minivan on the road.
And it weighs half, so it will smoke any minivan in the turns, as well.

So, let's please dispense with this minivan nonsense already!
Minivans are not fast. Because data !

I think you're missing where this insult originally comes from... it's not "made up" at all

Regardless, I understand and appreciate what you're trying to do with this thread.

The average new car costs around 36k in the States. If you know what youre doing you can get a new BRZ for 24k. That's in the same range as other econoboxes like the Civic Si and Golf Gti. Relatively speaking, the BRZ is a cheap car.

The insult of the 86 being slower than a minivan is years older than the video you posted. They were just the first to film a 86 actually racing a minivan.

Wish granted.

Unfortunately, although the car is much faster with these setups, the ability of your average journalist to utilize a momentum car is more uncommon than it should be. Many of them seem to the be the "I'll make up time on the straights" type.

LOL, the mini-van video is fake news click bait.

Video said the van did 0-60 in 8 seconds.
BRZ did 0-60 in 8.5? 8.5? LMAO

Everyone knows the BRZ does 0-60 in about 6 seconds.
Every Pacifica review has it doing 0-60 in 7.5 to 8 seconds.

More bogus "journalism"
BRZ blows the doors off the mini-van.

The 86 used in the video was an automatic. 0-60 for an automatic zenki is roughly 7.7 seconds, so slower than the Pacifica's 7.5 seconds.

Here is another example of the BRZ not going slow:

All stock other than pads and better tires. A good steering actuator (had to steal that one) and large reproductive organs go a long way. When I first saw this video I recognized the name. He is a very successful simracer in iRacing.

funwheeldrive 09-10-2018 03:09 PM

I cant watch the above video, but I've seen countless of NA miata pass way more expensive cars on the track. That doesn't make the 90+ hp miata a 'fast car' or even a 'quick car'.

Very true. But I didn't post the video to show a BRZ passing supercars. I posted it because it's legitimately FAST. An 8:20 is fast plain and simple. Sure not everyone can get an 8:20 out of a BRZ but not everyone can get any of the records held by a lot of the other cars on the records list that were beat by this guy in the BRZ.

ST185RC 09-10-2018 05:04 PM

Well, I'd like to see the 86 carry 7 full-sized adults comfortably, so van wins hands down, suckers.
