Totaled or nah ...
Well... I'm back. I got the car from the body shop 2 weeks ago and it was looking brand new... Anyways, I was sitting waiting to turn left and (thankfully) last second looked in my rear view to see a Dodge Caravan coming full speed, and was able to move a bit. I guess I should say I'm lucky because the driver made no attempt to slow down or stop and the only reason I got caught on the corner was because I was able to move enough out the way to prevent a full blown rear end. The speed limit was 80km/h and she was doing at least 90km/h. Driver bounced off the corner of my 86 and went about 100 feet into a ditch, pretty sure her van is totaled. Anyways, at least I saved my back and neck I guess... Funny thing is I saw her coming from like a kilometer away and she never even saw me apparently, straight road in bright sunlight with a bright red car... LUCKILY she had no story and admit she "didn't see me brake in time". She only got a ticket for following too close............ Well what do you guys think? I hope it's totaled, why should I have to own a salvage title if it's not my fault :( ? I doubt it'll even drive the same even if they slap another entire rear quarter assembly on. Well looks 30/70 its totaled/not totaled in my opinion, but maybe you guys know better.

I dunno man, pics might help
But it's probs totalled |

It won't have a salvage title unless it is totaled and resold in which case unless you buy it back then it won't be your problem. Picture does not work. |
It's hard to tell from this photo. If it was a 2013, yes. Since it is a 2017, it's value is higher, so, Maybe... I agree with your percentage estimation on if it is totaled.
Glad you are ok, sounds like you saw the van just in time to save yourself serious injury. That's very Fortunate! Distracted minivan drivers are some of the worst!!! |

Got the picture to work. Hard to tell but my guess is that isn't even close to being totaled. It can be fixed and will drive just fine.

Two weeks? Man, I'm sorry. Glad you're ok. Good looking out!

Rear wheel looks very crooked.
Did you drive it home? |

My guess is not totaled.
Rear bumper is $300. New tail light is $250 QP isn't horrible, people have fixed worse. $1500? Who knows, maybe the suspension is not that bad. Control arms and tie rods are not costly. $1000? I wonder if maybe this could be a $4k repair? https://preview.ibb.co/dnLWXz/20180830_190421.jpg |

Looking forward to hearing what the shop's estimate is.
Make sure you get 2-3 estimates |
In the US that would be about 7k I think. Definitely not totaled. In CA, I guess that's like 9k CAD if the labor/parts are equivalent cost? But if they have to ship something in that's at least a million.

If he keeps going as he has the whole body of the car will be new in about another year. |

Well after this it'll have had the fenders, hood and front bumper replaced, as well as the rear bumper, rear quarter panel, right rear suspension components, headlights, right rear tail light, (maybe trunk), and 1 wheel. smh I need to sell this car asap |

No way that repair is under 5000. You've got to get new rear control arms, axle shafts and new shock mount most likely at the minimum. That's $1500-$2000 with labor The 2017 rear taillight is around $457-$460 ( SU00306986 ) from the factory for one side The body repair needs a new rear bumper cover, new rear quarter and fender and fuel door plus paint labor is definitely going to be $3500-$4000 at it's cheapest, assuming no structure or crash bar damage and if anything related to that is damage consider it increased by $800-$2000 OP I would definitely get a diminished value claim done, because with all the previous accidents it doesn't bode well for the cars value at all. Maybe even pay it off if your financing it and sell it ASAP as well  |

No chance it's that cheap. A front fender replacement is $1600. If that comes out under $10k I'd be pretty shocked. |

Labor is 1 hour to remove and install. Painting it should not be over $300 Maybe $700 for a repainted replacement fender ? Not even close to $1600, that's for sure. |
I guess it depends on the body shop. Rates can vary.
I'm pretty sure I could get this done for under $5k. Assuming it's just some basic suspension stuff, and nothing catastrophic. |

Have you guys priced it out for real? I have. Three quotes, all within ~$60 of each other, all right around $1600. There's also a lot more prep, blending into adjacent panels, etc. Unless you're fine with the fender not matching, they're blending onto the bumper, hood and drivers door. If you guys want to keep arguing I'll go dig up the quotes so you can see for yourselves. |

Max is right the fender costs around $400 to $500. You are right since by the time that $400 part is on and painted properly it is at least $1600. In fact if your quotes are personal ones then they could be low since the insurance quotes are usually at least 20% more. If people can find a place to do it cheaper then good for them but it wouldn't be my choice. Body work is one of the top you get what you pay for jobs. |

I know when I had my minor repair done to the front end back a year or so ago, it was no where near this significant and the repair still cost almost $2,000 as handled by insurance. You are right that there is a difference between Canada and US pricing of course. |

... But yeah, you're probably right, don't listen to us. Lol |

mine is probably so low on the value scale that it could be written off if a wiper blade blows away. |

Going to come down to what they have to do with the rear panel. If it's no frame damage and it can all be popped out, it won't be horrible. Bolt-on parts. It could go high very quickly if the frame is bent, the trunk isn't closing right, etc.
Hopefully they replace the rear suspension frame, 'cause it's bent if the wheel was hit. Long as you're walking away... stuff happens. My previous car was hit behind the rear door, pretty much the same area crumpled (though I didn't have any bumper damage). They had to cut out and replace a whole section, blend, and repaint. That was near $5k if I remember right. Fortunately my insurance had to step in to help out or it would have been even worse (Geico sucks by the way). Impossible model to replace, and even trying would have gotten expensive real quick. I could barely tell - I believe it was just a touch stiffer on that side after the change. But for a car that 3-wheeled regularly, no noises, no panel alignment issues or evidence of the repair when putting it in direct stress. |
Did you get an estimate or two yet?
