1) This is in Canada - $7500 usd is about $9700 cdn, it's also really hard to find a shop that'll do cash work for significantly less up here, typically the most you'll save is the tax (13% in Ontario). 2) It is going through insurance, so your backdoor shop theory doesn't matter |
Update: Got a call from insurance today. Body shop has all the parts and is starting repairs today. Estimated to be completed Oct 18 funny enough the completed estimate went from $7500 to $7200. So we'll see in a few weeks.............. 49 days later.......

Update: Suspension parts on back order. Body shop "hopes to have it done by the end of the week"... rental extended. Currently 52 days with the Sonata and put ~4k km on it.

Just curious. Has the shop shared with you details about the damage? Maybe it's a good sign that they are taking their time with the work. I know little about the business side of these things.
Fingers crossed for you. Hope it comes out perfectly. |

Final update: I got the car back yesterday ~4pm. Final cost $7218.XX CAD. I spent quite a bit of time driving it yesterday to get a feel for it and honestly it feels exactly how I left it, and it looks brand new. Obviously that's only half the story, I'm still taking it back to Toyota to have it inspected. Yesterday made 2 months exactly.

I would be pissed if my car got repaired instead of written off with that much damage
