Epic Drive #2: August 11-12

EDIT: This event has been canceled

Here's what I have in mind for Epic Drive #2 (VT Mountain Passes):

SAT
-----------
11:00 Brunch in Brattleboro
12:00 Drive
13:00 Vintage Sports Car Mt Equinox Hill-climb
15:00 Drive
16:00 Check in at Rutland hotel
17:00 Drive, dinner, maybe movie

SUN
-----------
09:00 Breakfast
10:00 Drive
12:00 Texas Falls (snacks, stretch, walk)
13:00 Drive
14:00 Late lunch at White River Junction

The hotel I was thinking of is http://highlandermotelofrutland.com/. Cheap, no frills. Rooms are about $60-70 for two full beds.

If you're going and are looking to share a room, post here so we can figure that out. Also, PM me if you want a map of the likely route (I'm still working on it).

Any ideas for restaurants in Brattleboro and White River Junction would be welcome.

I never heard back from the Mt Equinox folks, so I'm still not sure of the timing with the vintage sports car race, but I figured we'd could drive to the base of Skyline drive and scope it out. That could end up being a much shorter stop than two hours.

Who's in?

Damn sounds good. Hope my BRZ comes before that. It's somewhere at sea. It's had a VIN# for a couple weeks now

This sounds awesome, so far that weekend I'm free, I'm still deciding about doing it overnight.

Truth be told, when I was coming up with the route I figured it might be a little too ambitious (due to the distance, cost, and additional time commitment of an overnight trip). But I couldn't map out a more epic drive than the first one without spreading it over two days :D

If not enough people are up for this, we could instead do a closer, shorter drive that weekend. Either way works for me.

I hope there is a lot of interest in this still. This is just my opinion, but what I really like about these events is the drive (obviously), with perhaps lunch before or dinner after. While I'm sure it would be fun, I'm not crazy about making this into a weekend trip where we have to pack for an overnight, buy several meals, etc.

What I would prefer would be to start earlier, say around 8-9AM to combine more of what you wanted into one day, then head home around dusk. I mean if you think about it, the first day consists of 6 hours of driving, and 3 hours the next day. I think it could be shortened a bit and made into an epic one day drive!

Well we should probably get a deadline posted for how many members will be able make it for next weekend.

And if the 2 day thing is putting off to others, I hope they realize they don't have to stay overnight, but they could just come for one of the drives on either Saturday or Sunday.

So far the set up looks good. I really hope most you guys will step up to the plate and join in, otherwise you'll miss out on a great planned out event with other fellow FT86 members. :happy0180:

This event has been canceled (it had turned into a bit of a PITA for me that weekend anyway, so it's just as well). Perhaps we can instead do a smaller Fall foliage drive in a couple months.

Sounds perfect! You always create great drives, I'd say a mid/late August single day drive will be perfect.

Too bad, at least by then I should have my BRZ.
