Parents reactions

So im in the market to getting a new Scion fr-s (new member, posted in the regular discussion forum yesterday), just wondering, what were ya'll parents reactions when you brought home or showed your guys twins to ya'll parents? Me even mentioning to my parents that I want this car has gotten me nothing but discouraging words and saying "its too expensive", "why do you need another car? You have one (I am driving a blue civic atm but I plan on giving it to my little bro considering its his senior year and Id rather him be out then just vegetating until college starts. The civic is my dads and it is paid off but as far as the ladder goes, I get the fr-s he gets the civic, dont really see anything wrong with that)", "blah blah", "your job's salary wont cover this". Everything imaginable I have heard it. Despite it all, I plan on getting it. Been in love with this car for so long and I even saw a beautiful red FR-S with (gold or yellow rims?) who i gave a thumbs up to after I asked him to slow down a bit so I could get a look at his ride. It is everything I could have ever wanted in a car and despite everything, I plan on getting one, hopefully soon.

So again, sorry if the above sounded like a live journal post, what were your parents reaction in bringing home one of the twins?

If your parents are saying your job won't cover this. Have you sat down and looked at the finances to see if you can actually afford it with reasonable payments? Also have you looked into insurance as well?

I believe I can, I have a full-time job and I also do uber on the side as well. as for insurance I have shopped around and looked at others insurance rates and they all seem to vary. Not to sure how to exactly look really

You will have to give up uber since you're giving back the civic. Uber requires you to have a 4 door vehicle if I remember.

My mother cried and said it was the most beautiful car she had ever seen. The first time she rode in it she was overjoyed because it was so easy for her to get in and out of. She is very short and has had both hips replaced so getting down from high vehicles cause a bigger issue than getting up from the low one.
Oh, and she is 82 years old but has owned a list of cars through the 1950s to 1980s that would make many collectors today drool.

why? 08-23-2018 01:04 PM

you need to figure $2k a year just for insurance, and then the car payments, unless you saved up the cash, which you really should do first.

My dad's hobby is buying cars for people, so he enjoyed that. Both my parents love my car, it looks awesome, drives awesome, and can get awesome gas mileage. Had a coworker that used to call it the batmobile because of the front end.

My mom's reaction: "Another one?"

My dad's reaction: "You sold the S2000, really?"

My Dad never saw my twin. My Mom said "stupid car, no one needs more than one car."

I pretty much new that is what she would say, that is why I didn't show it to her till just this year when I finally decided to stop hiding my toys from my Mom.

Well I have to agree that five vehicles with three of those being toys is a tad redundant.

I am still waiting for the Porsche to get here by the way. Surly you have put air in the tires by now.

Well ya. Your parents probably would have been impressed by fire and sharp sticks much less a car.
