Sony XAV-AX100 and Backup Camera Help?

Hi everyone. I recently just purchased a 2013 Scion Frs and the previous owner had already installed a Sony XAV-AX100 Headunit in it.

I am planning on adding a camera, but am unsure which one to purchase. I have already read through countless forums of backup camera installations, so it has become overwhelming.

A few cameras that I had in mind were the Chuanganzhuo, Rydeen Mini, or the Camera Source Kit.

The problem I have is with the wiring. If anyone knows how to install any of these or have the same headunit with a backup camera, please let me know! Thanks!

With the aftermarket radio, it might be difficult to wire the backup camera. That's my fear as well since I added an aftermarket backup camera to my stock headunit, I'm not 100% sure if I switch my head unit out, the backup camera will stop working.

I had the camera source kit, I would avoid it. I had to kept replacing it every 4-5 months, luckily there is a 3 year warranty but it became a pain to keep ripping my car apart. In the end, I took it to a professional and they charged me $160 dollars and so far it's been working longer than 4-5 months.

I have a rydeen duo on my car with a pioneer HU, looks oem, works well, I installed that sony xav-ax100 unit last mo in my GFs beetle, and used a boyo VTL171RTJ. it works well too with that unit. I wouldn't choose that for the FRS personally as the license plate has some distance to a beezle to hide the wire behind. The hardest part for me on both cars was getting the nerve to drill the body panels for the wires, vs the actual wiring. just follow instructions, any aftermarket camera should work with the sony, just don't cheap out and get one that's less than say.. $40-$50 imo. the rydeen duo will cost about $70 IIRC.

I have the XAV-AX100 as well and this is exactly what's keeping me from installing the camera.

Ya, I was thinking of purchasing the Rydeen as well. Would I have to buy an adapter with it because I know that the FRS needs a reverse trigger wire, correct?

I tapped it at kick panel on the driver's side in my car. That was not easy, I'm not sure if I would go that route a 2nd time, getting to the reverse wires under the rear of the car seems easier in hindsight. TBH The beetle was easier here than the frs, the harness came with reverse signal from the little can bus box.

Did you ever install it? If so, what was the process?

Nope, I have two other projects going on. One involves tearing out much of my interior and installing a carbon fiber center console. I'll use the opportunity then to finally install the camera. Has been sitting in my basement since last October, sigh.
