Oil leak? Front driver side

I popped the hood today and noticed that the driver side had a build up of oily crud (for lack of a better term) coating the skidplate. From there I noticed a light build up on everything above it leading all the way back to the firewall.

Dipstick shows no oil loss, but I'm not sure how accurate they are on these cars.

Car has 55k miles and is stock.

Anyone have a similar experience?

I have it as well, haven't serviced or fully diagnosed it yet but its a common issue. Take a look around as shown in the pdf to see where it might be coming from.

I'd get it into a dealer and have them figure it out before you hit the 60k mark when your engine warranty runs out. I, and many others, had the timing cover leak and the fix would have been silly expensive if it wasn't covered.

Most likely spilled oil from adding oil. The fill spout is low and even with a funnel will drip down near the cam sensor covers to the skid plate.

I'm considering that. I'm usually very careful, but who knows. I'm going to get the engine bay spotless and see if it comes back.

.

Doesn't matter if you're not the original owner. The warranty covers the car powertrain regardless of owner.

Most likely it's just the cam plate cover- common problem, covered under warranty

Cam plate is on passenger side. It sounds like OP has a timing cover leak, which is also a common issue.

I have the oil leak issue and dealer had reseal the timing cover, cam cover 3 times and it is still leaking. The motor is now removed from my car and the dealer is working with Toyota to identify where the leak is cominf from. It's been almost a week in the shop and there is no words on completion.

I have this issue as well, problem is now my warranty is expired already.......

*I actually noticed the issue before warranty expires @ 59k miles, took it to dealer & they only replace the VVT control unit on the top right cuz there was obvious leak mark from there.

It's still dirty & leaks but now I'm not in warranty@64k mile :( I guess there is nothing i can do now except build engine?......:confused0068:
