Since when did WRX have 2 doors...

Hey

Has anyone seen this? I may be late to the party, but look at this article from car and driver.

Picture can clearly see rear door. Also Subaru is already announced they're axing WRX and bringing Viziv or something like that

Wasn't the Viziv just the name of the next gen. WRX concept?

No spy shots

So I have been patiently waiting for the new STI release. Looks like summer of 2019 is a no go. Should have been some spy shots by now.

I’m not fully sure. I haven’t really following too much on it.

Yea clearly 4 doors but from that angle it definitely looks more like a coupe sedan or fastback sedan

EDIT: It kinda reminds me of the current 4 door Civic.

I still don't see how you could mistake that for a coupe lol.

Yes the Viziv is a WRX/STi concept for a crossover type version of each the same as there is a BRZ STi. Someplace there is an official Subaru press release that gave a rough timeline for the transition of all the vehicles to the new Global Platform that the 17 Impreza is built on. That list included both an Impreza based WRX and Sti. They appeared to say that they were going back old school with the performance versions being based on a regular model. The designation of WRX/STi sort of evolved into their own model of car over a few years but really they could be a version of any Subaru.
My wife has the 17 Impreza on the new platform and it is impressive so I have been following the little real info available about the upcoming performance versions as close as possible. The performance cars will be very different from any prior generations but it is promising that it will be in a positive way (the fanboys will probably scream murder though).

Now as a disclaimer there has not been much official info released so all that may have changed in the last year and a half.

"Subaru should probably do something to burnish its slipping credibility among enthusiasts."

Nope. Subaru should continue to print money selling mass-market vehicle.

Historically, all Subaru concepts (like the 2013 WRX concept) have not turned out how they were presented. So any images or concepts should be taken with a grain of salt.

The new global architecture may make it more cost efficient for them to differentiate models and give them more visual flair, but I'd bet the new WRX and STI will be 98% indistinguishable from the Impreza under the skin. As Tcoat mentioned, the new Impreza is only ever criticized for its power and CVT; I've never heard anything negative about the platform being a weak link, or anything to suggest it couldn't take 400+ hp with only minor structural and suspension changes.

Understandable, since the production model will look nothing like the concept.

krayzie 08-16-2018 05:11 PM

Oh great another fucking crossover.

Leonardo 08-16-2018 05:22 PM

The concept photos looked like a coupe. Though if you look really close you can see the rear door line. Barely. They fooled me for a minute.

Me as well.
I would give the car one week before a rear passenger opened the door too fast and far and smoked the car beside it with that molded in fender flair.
