Different tire diameters and pedal dance
Hellow fellows, on my last track day one of my tires got a wire thru it and I only just noticed it (finished the day on it, dont know when it got it). I did a DIY repair with the rubbery thing you insert and it holds air for now, but I dont know if that will still be the case at the track. I have 2 sets of tires/wheels, one is 235/40R17 and the other is 255/40R17.
Has anyone here done some some track work with different diameters, does the car do anything funky? I do pedal dance so Im only concerned with whatever's left of ABS functionnality. I dont mind the difference in ride height or handling or wahtever, I can addapt to that, I just want to know if the car will throw some weird ABS code that will put it in limp mode or not. Also, if there's anyone who's done the same kind of repair on a tire and has tried it on track, I would love to hear your experience/thoughs on it. |
I have used tires with plugs in them on the track and in autocross. Where is the plug located? If it is near the shoulder or edge of the tire, I would not run too long on it. I had one plug on the edge that eventually gave way and sent me into a high speed corner with no air in the tire (rear outside tire resulted in near spin). Managed to not go off track but it was the last time that set of tires was used.
If the plug is somewhere on the flat of the tire it is a bit safer. Plus, a tire shop can patch it from the inside. |

I would not track on a patched tire.

They don't want the risk, that is why they don't touch it if it is anywhere near the sidewalls.
The plug will fail, or leak, eventually. I actually replaced my plug once because it started leaking then had a couple more long HPDE weekends before it came out again. If it's close to the edge I would recommend not running on it, but that is up to you. Do as I say not as I do [emoji16] Quote:
