FRS/BRZ intake leak part?

What is this part called at the bottom? I've pinpointed intake lean causing a lean code.

The little thing that hangs from the intake pipe. Mine has a huge hole from rubbing on belt. And what is even the point of this cup thing, Its hollow

Probably resonator. To cancel out certain noise frequencies. If it's simpler to you, you can close it off, just like soundtube port.

You could probably just cap it. Local hardware store should have it. Otherwise just get the Perrin inlet tube and do the sound delete.

I think that one is important for the MAF

That is indeed a resonator, but I believe it was used in some way to help the sound resonator tube that pumps the intake noise into the cabin. You can replace the whole intake tube rather than buying that OEM part as I was unable to find that specific part number looking at diagrams

Also doing so deletes the sound tube:

Or you can have this used OEM tube:

I don't believe it's important to MAF, many CAI and other inlet tube manufacturers removed it and found it was simply for sound suppression. Also the TRD intake removes it entirely as well.

After I posted, I second guessed all the people that were worried about the sound tube delete. :/

*gasp* "What if they were all...?" ... "Nah. No way!"

 Well all I can say is I have the TRD intake installed which didn't do much but look cool, but I did cap off the sound tube as it came with the cap to remove it.

It's called the resonator.

FWIW just remove it and plug it.

FRS/BRZ intake leak part?

The resonator is used to tune the intake pulses. Mishimoto did some dyno testing with it, it generates about 3-5 HP depending on which air filter and intake hose used (also linked by @Boomerang above):

https://www.mishimoto.com/engineerin...nt-completion/

Either way the engine lost power without the resonator in every scenario.

just get the Perrin silicone intake tube or a whole intake kit and replace that whole assembly.

I'm back to thinking it affects MAF operation. It also supports my years old argument that the sound tube was an afterthought.

Thanks all for the info, I will end up just deleting it for now. Currently have the hole taped off with electrical tape. (Very temporary to troubleshoot lean code and confirm cause) :).

Ill purchase whole intake part as suggested from ebay later on.
