about scions..

where are the other scions made? since scion is technically an american company it seems funny that the frs is truely a japanese car.

drei 07-27-2012 02:39 PM

scion = toyota..

rcm47 07-27-2012 02:40 PM

All scions are made in japan.

empower-auto 07-27-2012 02:41 PM

I stopped caring about cars being made in Japan after my 2004 Mazda 3 (and all non-turbo 2.3L Mazda's of that generation were) was total garbage.

eriktherod 07-27-2012 02:43 PM

I've always been a Honda/Toyota guy. That and the vettes.

Calidrifter 07-27-2012 02:55 PM

Japan, but at the Toyota factory.

Welcome to ft86club. You have some reading to do.

FRS = 86 = BRZ and they're all built by Subaru (Fuji Heavy Industries) in Japan.

There is nothing Scion nor American about this car.

And the only thing American about other Scions is the intended market, which is why (in my humble opinion) they all suck.

That's because it was a Mazda. Great handling cars, but are put together like crap...look at their quality/reliability rating over the last decade, they are horrendous.

The late 80's/early 90's stuff made in Japan (primarily Toyota/Honda) was awesome. I still see a ton of those cars running today...can't say that about many Mazda's and Nissans of that era.

I'm probably being dramatic. If anything ... the problem with that generation was Ford having their hands in the C1 platform. The 2.3 was a glorified cheapo duratec.

yes, i'm well aware. just like acura = honda.

however, scion is an american brand. there is no scion in japan. just like there is no acura in japan.

i know that the frs and brz are built by subaru at their plant in japan.

in america you're getting a scion branded toyota built with subaru parts at a subaru plant. quite the frankenstein.

i just find it strange that american brands sell japanese cars.

i think you're over-thinking this

brand is brand, Toyota has invested into the SCION brand for north america and the FRS fit into the scion image more than it would have fit into the toyota image.

Sigh-on-Rice 07-27-2012 03:35 PM

Just like Infiniti and Acura.
Even Lexus wasn't there in Japan until recently.

Infiniti G = Nissan Skyline
Infiniti M = Nissan Sedric
Infiniti Q = Nissan Cima
Acura RSX = Honda Integra
Acura TSX = Honda Accord
Scion FR-S = (almost) Toyota 86
Scion xD = (almost) Toyota ist
Scion xB = (almost) Toyota Rumion

I don't understand why only Scion is strange to you.

Razz 07-27-2012 03:43 PM

Scion is not an American brand.

It is a Japanese brand from Toyota.

It's not owned or built by an American company.

Yup, Ford didn't do much to help Mazda outside of some capital infusion.

This. It's a japanese brand only marketed in NORTH America(they're up here in Canada too)

Mr. Mcoupe 07-27-2012 05:56 PM

OMG. Scion is Canadian.

Stop over thinking it.

They are all part of the same company. They have a lot in common, but by far, they are not the same.

MVJ1975 07-28-2012 10:33 AM

tC2 isn't even US-exclusive anymore, like tC1 was. tC2 is sold as the Toyota Zelas in a bunch of different markets, including the Middle East.

Scion, like Honda of America, is a US distribution company, not a manufacturer. It is wholly owned by Toyota.
